Another opportunity to sign up for some popular botanical art workshops as artist Margaret Best presents her latest Weekend Workshop, Trees: Small Works Studies in Colour, on Saturday and Sunday, April 9th and 10th.

Botanical Art Societies around the globe are starting to facilitate open (non-juried) components to annual exhibitions known as ‘Small Works’. This allows artists regardless of skill level, a chance to enjoy the experience of exhibiting. For the first time, Margaret is going to offer participants the opportunity to create a small study using tree subjects with small leaves, small flowers or small fruits as the focus.

Composing a plant study to fit the confines of a small, defined space can be challenging for some yet comfortable for others. Join Margaret from 10am until 4pm each day in this 2-day workshop in your choice of colour medium to experience what is entailed in creating an effective ‘Small Work’ study. You may surprise yourself and finish a complete piece during the workshop!

Workshops are suited to all levels of expertise.

0414Agshow

Showcasing the best that Bermuda has to offer, both agriculturally and culturally, the Bermuda Agricultural Show, also known as the Ag Show, will be held from Thursday to Saturday, April 14th to 16th.

This well-loved national event is a perfect blend of the old and the new, and is a wholesome fun event for the whole family.  Taking place at the Botanical Gardens, the Ag Show will be open from 9am until 5pm each day.

Each year livestock, vegetables, fruits, floriculture, homemade food products, wood craft and educational categories are brimming with entries. Cow milking, equestrian events poultry judging, home baked goods and everything else that you would expect will be found on site at The Botanical Gardens in Paget.

In addition, this year has some new features like the parish relay race and the tug of war. Entertainment in the lower ring provides a second focal point for those who have wandered away from the Main Ring.
Thursday is the most popular day with seniors, pre- schoolers and anyone else who wants to see the items on display at their peak of freshness. Friday has been titled No School Day and the students look forward to it each year. Hundreds of students take full advantage of the holiday to see if they’ve won a coveted rosette or highly commended sticker.  Saturday is generally a family day when many come out to enjoy the day and the beautiful setting.  The event will culminate in a soca jam from 4pm until 8pm on the Saturday.

Food will also be available for sale, courtesy of the registered charities who set up small booths and provide fast food, Bermuda-style.  Don’t miss this very special annual tradition.

Tickets are available at the Exhibition on the day at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children under 16 and seniors.  Children under 5 are free. Advance tickets can also be purchased online at www.pTix.bm.
