The weather may be a little confused right now but I still absolutely love this time of year – beach days are back!

Here are the latest events to be added to the Bermuda summer calendar – as always, don’t forget to check out the Quick Recap section at the bottom of this post for a full listing of all upcoming events, including those previously covered in previous posts.

 

 

 

0608 Sweet P Afternoon Tea at the Perfumery

Enjoy delicious food in the beautiful garden of Stewart Hall as Sweet P presents Afternoon Tea at the Bermuda Perfumery.

From 1pm until 4pm every Wednesday and Saturday, you can enjoy an artful presentation of traditional savouries and hand crafted petit fours  along with their scones served hot from the oven.

The cost is $30 per person, plus gratuities, and is cash only, no cards.  Reservations are required.

0615 Guided Walking Tour of UNESCO World Heritage Site

Step into history during a Guided Walking Tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. George’s.

Departing from King’s Square at 10.30am on Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays, this informative guided tour through the narrow alleys and cobblestone lanes of Bermuda’s idyllic UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Town of St. George’s, hardly changed since the 17th century.

The cost is $12 person and $6 for children under 12.Tickets are available from the Visitor Information Centre at King’s Square.

This event will run until the end of September.

0616 InterNations Bermuda

Join a good group of friendly expats and some locals living in Bermuda, at the InterNations Expat Community Cocktails on Thursday, June 16th.

This month, they will gather from 5.30pm in the intimate setting of a members club – more specifically, at the Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society, where life-long friends are made.

Risk discovering your creative side with this amateur theatre group that welcomes new members.  BMDS welcomes InterNations and will have membership information at hand for those bards among you.  Another good reason to frequent this club is their inexpensive bar prices.

At InterNations no-one stands alone, so you can feel comfortable coming on your own and be guaranteed of good conversation and new connections, or feel free to invite friends.

0616 Consulate Night at the Library

The U.S. Consulate General and the Adult Library will showcase another free film as part of the Bermuda National Library’s regular Consulate Night at the Library series on Thursday, June 16th.

The documentary film, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, will be screened at 6pm and Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig will lead discussion afterwards.

0614 Ocean Vet Sargasso Sea

BUEI Talks are screening Ocean Vet Episode 10: Sargasso Sea on Thursday, June 16th.

In this episode, Neil and Choy discover the heart of the sargassum community and work alongside veteran aquarium collector Chris Flook to reveal how crucial the sargassum seaweed is to the health of the entire ocean.

Follow the team as they explore the deep sea structure of Argus tower and inshore mangrove bays, building a bigger picture of how the intricate and delicate food web of the sargasso sea works.

Finally, the team attaches a tracking tag to one of the fastest fish that thrives amongst these floating seaweed matts, the wondrous Wahoo!

The screening will start in the Tradewinds Auditorium at 7.30pm.  Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are available from 5pm for the sushi bar and the full menu will be available from 6pm – please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers.  For dinner reservations call 295-4207.

0618 Painting Party

Choose to change the colours or follow along with the colours on the poster as you paint an owl at a Painting Party on Saturday, June 18th.

From 6pm until 8pm at the Civil and Military Lodge on King Strret, you will be guided step-by-step to take this beauty home with you.  You are welcome to bring beverages and snacks, if you choose, and are asked to wear appropriate clothing or bring an apron.  This acrylic painting class is suitable for all ability levels and no experience is necessary.

The cost is $55 per person and you will be provided with brushes, paint, a canvas, and an easel to use.

0618 Sunset Wine Tasting Cruise

An opportunity to sip on some vino while watching the sun go down as Discovery Wines are hosting another one of their popular Sunset Wine Tasting Cruises on Saturday, June 18th.

Guests should be at Barr’s Bay Park by 6.15pm for a 6.30pm departure aboard the Ana Luna with Captain Nathan.  From then until the boat returns at 8.30pm, they will be serving a flight of five fantastic wines, with an array of delectable hors d’oeuvres, while sailing around Hamilton Harbour and the Great Sound.

Bermuda Docs

The June edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be on Sunday, June 19th in the usual location of the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI.

The Man Who Knew Infinity will be showing at 3pm.  Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel star in the improbable true story of a self-taught Indian mathematics genius.

This will be followed at 5.15pm by Sugar Coated, a compelling investigative documentary which tells how the food industry seduced the world one spoonful at a time.

0621 Bermuda Toastmasters Table Topics Contest

Bermuda Toastmasters invite you to join them for a evening of fun as contestants speak off the cuff for 2.5 minutes or less at their Table Topics Contest on Tuesday, June 21st.

This will take place at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce from 5.30pm.  Table topics threatens our composure more than any of the other speaking activities in Toastmasters club, as there is no time to prepare your answer to the question posed.

This event is free and open to all.

Enjoy some family-friendly fun, featuring movies, games, and other fun activities, on many Friday nights throughout the summer,  at the Corporation of St. George’s UNESCO Street Festival, with the next on Friday, June 24th.

The six different events will have different themes.  Games Nights will run from 6.30pm until 8.30pm on June 24th and August 26th, while Movie Nights will be after sunset on July 8th, August 5th and September 2nd.  A special Cup Match Extravaganza will be from 6.30pm until 8.30pm on July 15th.

There is no cover charge.

Buy and sell your new or used items at The Urban Market, a new monthly communal social and flea market at Pembroke Community Club, with the next one on Sunday, June 26th.

Aiming to bring the community together through some shopping, food and entertainment, this will run from 11am until 4pm on the last Sunday of the month.

This month, they will have activities for the family to enjoy together, such as Henna, face painting, music, vintage shopping items, fun castles and more.  And when you need a little energy to go on, Smokin’ Barrel will be there to fill you up in the best way possible.

The fee for sellers is $20, which includes a table, chair and assigned space.

0628 BNL Summer Reading

With this year’s theme of On your Mark, Get Set, READ!, there’s lots to do this summer as the Youth Library holds its annual Summer Reading Programme from Thursday, June 28th until Saturday, August 13th.

There will be daily activities each at a cost of $5. There will be fencing, scavenger hunts, crafts, movies, archery and lots more.

Children are encouraged to become reading champions by participating in the reading challenge. The challenge involves completing a BINGO card of activities in order to earn prizes and a chance to win the Grand Prize and attend the end of summer bash.

0630 Autism Spectrum Disorder Lecture

Bermuda Autism Support & Education and the Bermuda Hospitals Board invite the community to learn more about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at a free public lecture entitled Autism Spectrum Disorder and Other Commonly Occurring Conditions on Thursday, June 30th.

Taking place from 7pm until 8pm at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, the lecture will be given by Doctors Gagan Joshi and Varuna Tuli, who will discuss how ASD can affect behavior patterns and the development of social and communication skills.

They will consider the interaction of ASD with other conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, mood disorders and fragile X syndrome.

This lecture is free and open to the public.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents the new exhibit, 441, opening to the public on Friday, July 1st.

This will feature the works of Carlos Dill, Charis Haynes, Hannah Horsefield and Nahed Eid. These 4 artists bring 4 very distinct styles and techniques to create one diverse exhibition, which will be showcased in the Rick Faries Gallery.

The opening reception will be from 5.30pm until 7pm and the exhibit will run until July 27th.

Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 11am until 4.30pm on Sundays.  Masterworks is closed on public holidays.  General admission is $5, or free for members and children under 12.

0701 Fantastic Friday D'Usse Edition

LIV Bermuda 2016 kicks off with Fantastic Friday: The D’Usse Edition on Friday, July 1st.

From 6pm at Fairmount Southampton’s private Beach Club, you are invited to come turn up with over 200 overseas visitors and special guests to the best of hip-hop, reggae, trap and soca.  Music will be courtesy of DJ Trauma of TrapHouseNYC, who was voted DJ of the Year at the Global Spin Awards, along with Bermuda’s own DJ Rusty G and DJ Chubb.  This event is sponsored by Bermuda Tourism and D’Usse and Ace of Spades.

See two international recording artists sing and dance some of their massive hits at the Youth Summer Jam on Saturday, July 2nd.

From 2pm in the BAA Car Park, iHeartMemphis of Hit the Quan and Lean & Dab fame, and Silentó of last summer’s hit, Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) will be performing live.

This event will be hosted by Power Girl and Nadanja, with local performances by Jesse, Olivia, Rated E Dancers and H&H Gombeys.

Promising to be Bermuda’s coolest pool party, LIV Bermuda’s finale event is a July 4th Pool Party on Monday, July 4th.

Enjoy a great evening on the sea to see the sunset and its aftermath at Champagne and Fireworks aboard the Ana Luna on Monday, July 4th.

The fun will begin when the luxury 45′ catamaran departs from the dock at Grotto Bay at 7pm.  After enjoying the pinks and blues of the sunset, Ana Luna then anchors to enjoy firework displays at Tucker’s Point and Royal Navy Dockyard.  The cruise will last for approximately 3 hours.

The Ana Luna catamaran departs Hamilton docks  at 10am, heading to the legendary Non Mariners Raft Up at Mangrove Bay.  A BBQ lunch is included and Ana Luna will also stop for a nice swim and dessert in Paradise Lakes to allow guests to gather their senses and recover before facing the music of the City of Hamilton city once more.
