Is it safe to open up the shutters again?  Hope you all fared well in the recent storm – on the bright side, at least we didn’t have snow to deal with as well!

BUEI Screens presents The Party on Wednesday, March 7th.

In Sally Potter’s new dark comedy, Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) is hosting an intimate gathering of friends in her London home to celebrate her political ascension, while her husband, Bill (Timothy Spall), seems preoccupied. Janet’s acerbic best friend, April (Patricia Clarkson) arrives and others follow, some with their own dramatic news to share, but an announcement by Bill provokes a series of revelations that gradually unravel the sophisticated soiree, and a night that began with champagne may end with gunplay.  This R rated drama has a running time of 71 minutes.

The film begins at 7.30pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. You can even make a night of it since Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are required.  Please mention the event when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers. Red Steakhouse and Bar invite you to join them for an exciting opportunity to taste wines from the Justin and Landmark vineyards in California, recently named Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine at their UNWINeD at Red event on Friday, March 9th.

From 5pm until 7.30pm, you can taste several of their award winning wines paired perfectly with light nibbles from the team at RED.  If you wish to stay afterwards, they will be offering a 15% discount on dinner.

As part of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Bermuda is hosting a Swim-a-thon on Saturday, March 10th.

This will start at 10am at the Aquatics Centre.  Participants will also be able to sign up on the day of the event.

There is no fee to enter this fun fundraiser and participants of all ages are welcome.

All are welcome at the Pembroke Rotary Club’s Children’s Fair on Saturday, March 10th.

From 11am until 4.30pm at St. Paul’s Church Hall, you can expect games for primary and pre-school kids with lots of prizes. Face painting, train rides, fun castle, food. Raffle draw at 4.30 for great prizes including Mediterranean cruise for family of 4.

There is no admission fee and games tickets are $1 each.  Part proceeds will go to government primary schools.

Ever dreamed of being a model and walking the runway? This is your opportunity as the Bermuda Fashion Festival is scouting for this year’s event at their Model Call for Children on Saturday, March 10th and their Model Call for Adults on Sunday, March 11th.

Bermuda’s premier fashion week is scheduled to run from Sunday, July 8th to Saturday, July 14th with three fashion runway shows and one hair and beauty runway show.  They are calling all models who want to take part in this glamorous and high-energy event to come and audition.

The children’s auditions are for those aged 6 and up and will run from 11am until 3pm on March 10th.  Children must wear a white fitted tee with blue fitted denim jeans/shorts and white sneakers or black dress shoes.

The adult auditions will run from 11am until 3pm on March 11th.  Adults must wear a white fitted tee with blue fitted denim jeans/shorts. Men please wear white sneakers or black dress shoes. Ladies are asked to bring black heel, 4″ minimum, no wedges. Please bring a bathing suit.

All auditions will take place at the lower level of Pier 6.  There is no need to pre-register so you can just show up on the day.

Mr. Eugene ‘Kite Master’ O’Connor Sr. has just released his first book, The Art of Kite Making with a series of Book Signings during the month of March.

The book is in local stores now and his legacy and love for the art of Bermuda Kites is captured in a step by step instructional manual on how to make a Bermuda Kite.

The Book Signings will take place at The Book Mart on March 3rd,10th,19th,21st and 24th from noon until 3pm.

Designed to help kids aged 9 to 11 feel good about their bodies and embrace their unique qualities, the Healthy Happy Kids Workshop will be on Sunday, March 11th.

From 9.30am until 11.30am in the Somersfield Academy Common Room, they’ll be chatting about how food affects mood, and focus and performance in academics and athletics.  They will also be creating and enjoying some balanced healthy snacks provided by Lindos.

The cost is $25 per child.

Back by popular demand, BUEI Screens presents a third showing of Queen of the Desert on Sunday, March 11th.

Nicole Kidman and director Werner Herzog bring to life the extraordinary true story of a trailblazing woman who found freedom in the faraway world of the Middle East. Gertrude Bell (Kidman) chafes against the stifling rigidity of life in turn-of-the-century England, leaving it behind for a chance to travel to Tehran. So begins her lifelong adventure across the Arab world, a journey marked by danger, a passionate affair with a British officer (James Franco), and an encounter with the legendary T.E. Lawrence (Robert Pattinson). Queen of the Desert reveals how an ahead-of-her-time woman shaped the course of history.  This PG-13 rated drama has a running time of 127 minutes.

Bishop Nicholas Dill and U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig invite all ages to attend a Free Public Concert with Harvard Performers for Action on Alzheimer’s & Dementia on Tuesday, March 13th.

From 12.30pm at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity (Anglican Cathedral), the concert will feature the musical talents of three of Harvard University’s oldest a cappella singing groups who perform all over the world – the Radcliffe Pitches, Krokodiloes and the Din and Tonics.  The public is encouraged to come out and enjoy this free, upbeat and humorous performance.

The concert is free and donations will be gratefully accepted.  This year, the three groups will perform in support of Bermuda’s Action on Alzheimer’s and & Dementia (AAD), which will accept voluntary donations during the show. One hundred percent of the donations will go to AAD, which advocates for people living with dementia and provides support to their families and caregivers.

The March edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Elle (She) on Tuesday, March 13th.

Screening in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium at 8pm, this French drama/crime with English subtitles is from director Paul Verhoeven, starring Isabelle Huppert, Laurent Lafitte and Anne Consigny.

Michèle seems indestructible.At the head of a large video game company, she manages her business as her love life: with an iron fist. Her life changes when she is attacked at home by a mysterious stranger. Unshakeable, Michele begins to hunt him back. A strange game then settles between them. A game that, at any moment, can degenerate…..

L’Alliance Française des Bermudes invite you to their Annual Dinner, Soirée Maroc, celebrating Morocco and its French cultural heritage on Wednesday, March 14th.

From 7pm at Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, you can enjoy a includes a three course meal made of Moroccan speciality dishes prepared by the RHAC chef, live entertainment, a cash bar, and a special presentation by a French speaking Moroccan member, currently residing in Bermuda.  They will also have the honour of announcing the winners of the Alliance’s scholarships to visit and study in France this summer, as well as presentations from last year’s winners.

St. George’s Foundation will be showing the documentary Freedom Riders on Thursday, March 15th.

Doors to the World Heritage Centre open at 6pm and the film starts at 6.30pm.  Freedom Riders is the story of civil rights activists who challenged racial segregation in the Deep South.  Refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase.

Admissions is free, although donations are welcome.

You asked for it, they deliver – Bonfires and BBQs is back for its Winter Edition on Thursday, March 15th (postponed from March 1st).

From 7pm until 11pm on Front Street, between Burnaby and Parliament Streets, you can enjoy some BBQ action as the area is transformed into a melting pot of fire and S’mores.  Enjoy live music by local favourites Olivia Hamilton, Island Teazza and Working Title. There will be vendors on hand serving up your favourite delicacies and have a go at Bermuda’s official game, Crown & Anchor.

This event is for attendees aged 18 and older and ID is required.  The rain date will be Friday, March 16th.

Bermuda College in conjunction with Lahey Hospital and Medical Center presents a Pediatric Health Fair on Saturday March 17th.

From 3pm until 6.30pm at Bermuda College front field, you are invited to bring the whole family for presentations from nursing students, interactive demonstrations, speciality food vendors, music, food and fun.

There will be lots of information to be had on child-centered topics, dental health, residential safety, water safety, pedal bike helmets and many more topics of interest.

Fairmont Southampton invite you to join them for a special tasting experience at their Around The World Whisky Dinner at the iconic Waterlot Inn restaurant on Saturday, March 17th.

Back for its 21st year, the Bermuda International Film Festival will take place from Saturday, March 17th to Sunday, March 25th.

Gain tips and hints from award-winning actors at the Acting on Camera Workshop on Saturday, March 17th.

Starting at noon in the Earl Cameron Theatre, this two-hour workshop will provide tips from award winning film actor and director Karen Allen. The Festival is pleased to feature talented Bermudians at this year’s BerMovies Shorts on Friday, March 23rd.  From 6pm at the Earl Cameron Theatre, you can see shorts created by Bermudians, featuring Bermudians.  The shorts made by Bermudian Filmmakers are The Pursuit of Movement, Abuse, Concrete Dreams, Seeing Him, Trauma, Possession, Bermudian at University, PRINCE: Hometown Hero, It’s Possible, and Travellers Teaser.  Tickets for the BerMovies Shorts are free but seats must be reserved online at biff.ptix.bm.  You can also stick around for the BerMovies Party starting at 7.30pm.  This is a Happy Hour Celebration of our local filmmakers and talent. If you’re more interested in behind-scenes, then the SFX Makeup & Makeup for Film Workshop on Sunday, March 25th is for you.  From noon at the Earl Cameron Theatre, Christopher Vee, Traci Amaral, and Scott Robinson will be demonstrating techniques and tips for applying makeup for camera and special effects.  Participants will be called up to serve as models during the workshop, so the techniques can be viewed through a camera lens an onto the big screen.  Admission is $50 and tickets are available online at biff.ptix.bm.  For more information, contact 293-3456 or info@biff.bm.

Offering a full day of family fun for all, the Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC) will once again host its Annual Community Fun Day on Good Friday, March 30th.

The day begins at 9am with a 1.25 mile Run/Walk from Lindo’s Warwick to PHC Field. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each respective category.

From 10am until 7pm at PHC Field, there will be several fun castles for the kids, Xtreme Sports, mechanical bull, live entertainment, five-a-side football, and so much more.  Food will be provided by Sensational Delights and other local vendors.

The theme of this year’s event is Love My Bermuda, #LoveMyBermuda.
Admission to the Community Fun Day is free.  The registration fee for the 1.25 mile Run/Walk is $10 for Juniors (under 18) and $15 for Adults.  Registration is available at the Sports Seller in Washington Mall or online at www.RaceDayWorld.com.

Looking for extra support?  Help your child Learn have Fun and make New friends at the Apex Speech-Language and Literacy Camp from Monday, April 2nd.

From 9am until 3pm at the SE Pearman Building, your child will benefit from 30 hours of Speech-Language Therapy per week at this full day camp.

Therapy will be provided by Kimberly McIvor, M.Sc., S-LP(C), R, Senior Speech-Language Pathologist and Jen Ince, B.Sc., SLT, HCPC, R
Speech and Language Therapist (UK Certified).

The Camp will include Language and Literacy Games, Yoga and Movement Activities, Therapeutic Arts and Crafts, Daily Exploration Trips and Outdoor Learning.

The cost is $400 for the week or $85 per day.

In honour of Lt. Col. The Hon. David A. Burch, OBE (Mil.) ED, JP, MP. Minister of Public Works, Prof. Eddie Ming cordially invites you and your family and friends to The Rhythm Lab’s Vegan Jazz Gathering on Saturday, April 7th.
