July 25th, 2018 Bermuda Calendar Update

A free summer film series, organised by the US Consulate in partnership with the BUEI, will continue with a screening of Marvel’s Captain America on Saturday, July 28th.

On the last Saturday of each month, the public are invited to attend this series of matinee screenings, featuring films that cover a range of interesting topics from women in science, to ocean conservation, endangered wildlife and American history. The summer film series began on Saturday, May 26 at BUEI with Hidden Figures in May, and Matt Shepard is A Friend of Mine in June. The last film of the series is yet to be announced and will show on August 25.

Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger is a superhero film set during World War II where a rejected military solder is transformed into a super-soldier determined to stop a villain pursuing world domination. Produced by Marvel Comics, Captain America is part of the popular movie series of American comic book superheroes including Spider-Man, Iron man, Black Panther and Hulk. The cast features actors: Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Derek Luke and more.

Showtime starts 2pm at the BUEI. Seating will be available on a first come first served basis.

Admission is free, however you can reserve a ticket for entry at BUEI’s Ocean’s Gift Shop or online at www.Ptix.bm.

In celebration of Bermuda’s emancipation, you are invited wear your team’s Cup Match Colours to a party on Thursday, August 2nd.

This will take place from 9pm until 3am, outdoors at the Southampton Rangers Sports Club, where you can come out and emancipate yourself to hot music by DJ Jules, Lava Rock, DJ Mystro, OGS Genesis and DJ Sheep.

Tickets are $15 in advance from www.pTix.bm, $25 at the gate or less if you wear your Cup Match team colours.

Wrap up your Cup Match weekend with a day on the water as Calico Jack’s Floating Bar Presents: (Not the) Non-Mariners 2018 on Sunday,  August 5th.

Boarding is at Albuoy’s Point from 9.30am for a 10am departure.  From then until the boat returns at 6pm, you can enjoy some of the island’s top DJs, tons of fun and games, raft-up giveaways, and more.

Music will be courtesy of Supatone Sound, DJ Rusty G, and Milk n’ Money w/ Felix Tod & Korie Minors for an open-format with dancing music and party vibes.

Calico Jack’s will have the pirate flag flying high as they mix your favourite drinks, all day long, with all-you-can-eat grub provided by Dockie’s catering, as well as Calico’s onboard BBQ grill.

Promising to be the #1 all-day Party Cruise of the year on Bermuda’s best party boat, this event is presented in association with Supatone Sound and The Docksider Pub and Restaurant, and is sponsored by Heineken.

The secret to success is getting started. Find out how to convert your core values into a rewarding, meaningful career at the Bermuda College Information Boutiques on Saturday, August 18th.

From 1pm until 5pm on Nellie’s Walk at City Hall, you can receive support while exploring the Bermuda College’s nursing options. Representatives from the division of Applied Science, Business and Hospitality will be on hand to answer any questions and sign you up for classes.  You can also find out how to access some of the $300,000 available to students in need.

The Bermuda Government Tuition Grant is available to students seeking to enrol in Bermuda College whether it be to take a course, pursue a programme facilitated by one of the academic divisions or to a programme facilitated by the Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) division. This grant has been provided to remove financial barriers to members of the community who want to engage in higher education to explore options, re-tool, seek certification but may not have the financial means to do so independently.  Please note this applies to all courses and programmes that do not already receive funding.

Eligible Students are any students who have enrolled to take at least one course with Bermuda College whether it be through the academic or PACE divisions, and are deemed to be Bermudian over the age of 16.  Current students must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.00.

Funding will range from 30% to 80% based on the determination of need by the Financial Aid Committee. Funding is based on the cost of tuition, incidental fees, and lab fees. Funding does not include the cost of books and supplies.
