BUEI Films presents: I am Maris on Tuesday, April 23rd.

I AM MARIS is a story about mental health, self-love, and the power of one person’s voice. Tormented by anxiety, depression and a life-threatening eating disorder, a teenage girl confronts her buried emotions through yoga. With infectious authenticity, I AM MARIS paints an unguarded portrait of mental illness and recovery, using Maris’ own words and vivid artwork to illustrate her inspiring journey.

The films starts at 7:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium.

The Harbourfront restaurant opens for dinner at 5pm, and ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner (food only) before or after the film. Please call 295-4207 for reservations and be sure to mention the film. Cannot be combined with any special offers.

The Australian and New Zealand community in Bermuda will respectfully observe their annual day of remembrance for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) with an Anzac Day Sunrise Service on Thursday, April 25th.

This will begin at 6:10am sharp at the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Warwick Camp.

While this day originally commemorated dawn landings for a wartime campaign in Turkey in 1915, the day now acknowledges all ANZACs who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. Australian and New Zealanders across the world meet at dawn each year for a remembrance service in their respective countries. Lest we forget.

The service is free to attend.

BUEI Screens presents: Mary Magdalene on Thursday, April 25th

She is one of the most transformative yet misunderstood women in history, alternately vilified as a sinner and canonized as a saint. For the first time, the incredible story of Mary Magdalene is told through her own eyes. In the first century A.D., the free-spirited Mary (Academy Award Nominee Rooney Mara) flees the marriage her family has arranged for her, finding refuge and a sense of purpose in a radical new movement led by the charismatic, rabble-rousing preacher Jesus (Academy Award Nominee Joaquin Phoenix). The sole woman among his band of disciples, Mary defies the prejudices of a patriarchal society as she undergoes a profound spiritual awakening and finds herself at the center of an earth-shaking historical moment.

The film starts at 7:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. The Harbourfront restaurant opens for dinner at 5pm and ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner (food only) before or after the film. Please call 295-4207 for reservations and be sure to mention the film. Cannot be combined with any other special offers.

BUEI Screens presents: Red Joan on Sunday, April 28th.

Joan Stanley (Academy Award Winner Judi Dench) is a widow living out a quiet retirement in the suburbs when, shockingly, the British Secret Service places her under arrest. The charge: providing classified scientific information- including details on the building of the atomic bomb – to the Soviet government for decades. As she is interrogated, Joan relives the dramatic events that shaped her life and beliefs: her student days at Cambridge, where she excelled at physics while challenging deep-seated sexism; her tumultuous love affair with a dashing political radical; and the devastation of World War II, which inspired her to risk everything in pursuit of peace.

The films starts at 5:15pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. The Harbourfront restaurant opens for dinner at 5pm and ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner (food only) before or after the film. Please call 295-4207 for reservations and be sure to mention the film. Cannot be combined with any other special offers.
