March 11th, 2020 Bermuda Calendar Update

Good Morning, Bermuda!

Here’s your weekly update with all the latest events that have been added to the Bermuda Calendar since last week. As always, make sure you scroll all the way down to the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post to see ALL upcoming events, including those that have been previously covered in previous posts.

Since it’s not practical to add them to the post each week, all of the Regular/ Weekly Events are listed on a separate page which you can access from the drop-down options under the Other Sections tab on the homepage.

If you are planning any upcoming events you can submit your event here – a basic listing is free! Just be sure to include all of the relevant details in your description.

Whether cultural, familial, social or political, Bermuda has links with Latin and North America, the Caribbean, Africa, UK and Europe. The National Museum of Bermuda invites you to join them as they uncover these links and the global forces throughout the Atlantic World that helped shape Bermuda as we know it, in a special four-part lecture series titled Bermuda in the Atlantic World, starting with The Early Atlantic Age (1250-1609) Why and How Did We Get Here? on Thursday, March 12th.

The first lecture will begin Bermuda’s story in 1250, with the construction of the Atlantic System that led to the Island’s discovery, the arrival of the first man of African descent, Venturilla, and the Sea Venture wreck. Bermudian historian Dr. Clarence Maxwell will explore the historical context that put Bermuda on the map.

The lecture is from 5:30pm until 7pm in the North Hall at Bermuda College, and is a component of NMB’s Moving the Needle Teacher Professional Development Programme, endorsed by the Department of Education.

Admission is free to the public.

Dates are yet to be confirmed for part 2,3 & 4 of this lecture series. Stay tuned or visit www.NMB./lecture/ for updates.

This weekend of multifaceted events aim to raise awareness of some of the major challenges in Bermuda, the planet’s current food systems, and offer alternatives for more sustainable consumption.

The evening will include a local herb-inspired cocktail reception with canapés, and four-course dinner with sustainable wines. Tickets are $130 and will be available at www.pTix.bm.

The Festival concludes with the final event – a Fresh Market Food Festival – on Sunday, from 4pm until 6pm, on the Southampton Beach Club Terrace. There will be local produce stalls by local farmers, displays by local vendors and organisations presenting Bermuda’s bounty, and activities for kids and adults alike.
