March 26th, 2020 Bermuda Calendar Update

Good Morning, Bermuda!

We hope you are keeping well and taking the necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy during this time. Because there are no new events to report on, this week’s post is going to be a little bit different. Below you will find a number of suggestions of businesses to patronise as well as online entertainment and activities to try while practicing social distancing. We hope you find this information useful and welcome you to let us know if you are offering any products or services that we can share with our audience by emailing info@BermudaEvents.com. Be sure to follow us on social media as well for daily updates.

Restaurant Take-out & Delivery

While restaurants are closed for dining, luckily there’s still the option for take-out. Many places are now offering delivery or curb-side pick-up so you don’t have to leave your house or car. The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce has put together a list of restaurants offering curb-side delivery which you can view by clicking on the image to the left. Please note that the Washington Mall has since closed so a few places on this list may no longer apply, however the Cottage Cafe & Bistro is still operational, and offering delivery between Smith’s and Warwick as well. While the Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club has temporarily closed all their restaurants, Marcus’ is still offering takeout which you can order for delivery through the Sargasso Sea App. This is a super handy app to have on your phone during this time, offering delivery from countless eateries island-wide, which you can download through the Google Play Store. The Loren’s Pink Beach Club has also adjusted their services to offer delivery and curb-side pick-up only. You can view the full menu here or contact 293-1666 for more information.

Groceries

Many new rules are in place for shopping at grocery stores, which you can read about in the Royal Gazette article here. This means that making a “quick trip to the shop” may not be as easy these days, but luckily a number of stores offer delivery and pick-up options, so you can shop smarter and safer by ordering groceries in advance to minimise your time out of the house. For example DropIt Delivery allows you to shop at Lindos from the comfort of your home while The MarketPlace stores also offer online ordering and pick-up or delivery through their website. And for those longing for fresh, locally grown vegetables, J&J Produce Stand encourage you to pre-order your weekly veggies for a seamless pick-up at their stand opposite Ariel Sands in Devonshire, every Saturday. Pre-orders must be placed before noon on Thursday for Saturday pick-up between 10am and noon. Visit their facebook page  to learn more, or contact 236-8616.

Pet Stores

Pet Stores offer essential food and retail for all the fur babies on island. Hence you ought to know that Noah’s Ark have implemented new hours and rules for shopping at their store in Devonshire. Click on the image to the left to read the full press release and be sure to follow them on Facebook for regular updates, or contact 236-1533 for more information.

Another great option is Pet Stop on Mills Creek who have also added curb-side delivery to their services. Follow them on Facebook or contact them at 824-7387 for more information, or to place an order.

Pharmacies

Phoenix Stores has launched a temporary prescription delivery service for those patients COVID-19 self-quarantined or unable to visit a drugstore. You can read more about the service in the Royal Gazette, or contact your pharmacist. Another option is My Pharmacy located in Charities House on Point Finger Road. They have recently introduced a drive through pickup service to complement their free home delivery service and reduce the risks associated with waiting and interacting with other customers. Follow My Pharmacy on Facebook  to learn more, or contact 261-2000.

Entertainment for Kids & Families

This can be a challenging time for kids and families stuck at home, but also a great time to catch up on your reading. Audible, the popular Amazon reading app, is now offering a selection of free audiobooks while kids are out of school. And for those who are less fond of e-readers, the The Bermuda Book Store can help you at a safe distance with their new curb-side pick-up service, which you can read about in the Royal Gazette here

CNN recently reported that the educational company Scholastics has launched a “Learn at Home” website that has daily courses for students from Pre-kindergarten to grades 6 and higher. Kids can also take a virtual visit to the Georgia Aquarium as an alternative to visiting our beloved local BAMZ.

And for adults and perhaps older kids with a taste for classical music, the Metropolitan Opera will host “Nightly Met Opera Streams” on its official website in an attempt to continue providing opera to its audience members.
