December 21st, 2012
Hi Kids
Well, this is my last post before the day itself so I just wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas for Tuesday! And if you don’t celebrate Christmas, then I hope you enjoy the happy vibes at this time of year. Be good to each other!
Also, just to give you a heads-up that next week’s post will be on Thursday instead of Wednesday as I will be in too much of a turkey coma to write anything on Christmas Day.
The last weekend of 2012 sounds like a good excuse for a party to me! On Saturday, December 29th, McLoviin promises the coolest party of the winter at Ciroc Deep Freeze at Cosmopolitan Nightclub (formerly Moon). iMEGA, New Era and Supatone will be playing all your favourite high energy party hits all night long from 11pm until 3am. Admission is $20 but the first 30 ladies will pay only $5.
If it’s true that there’s no rest for the wicked then I have to wonder what on earth pianist Tony Bari has been up to, as he is keeping very busy over the festive season. First up is a Christmas Eve Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long at Cambridge Beaches from 8pm until 11pm. On Christmas Day, Tony will be playing all your favorites on keyboard during Christmas Lunch and Dinner at Beau Rivage. Lunch is from noon until 3pm at a cost of $55 per person and dinner is from 7pm until 11pm and costs $85 per person. For reservations, call 236-6060. At Cambridge Beaches, on New Year’s Eve, Tony will be performing as a solo pianist at from 8pm until 10pm, followed by the Tony Bari Trio (with Stan Gilbert and Ronnie Lopes) to ring in 2013 from 10pm until 1am. For more details, call 234-0331.
You are invited to dress to impress as The Cellar at Fairmont Southampton promise an NYE Party you won’t forget on Monday, December 31st. For one night only, the Cellar will be double the size as an extra lounge room will be open with some fun surprises. All night long, from 10pm until 3am, there will be drinks specials, while Supatone and DJ Chubb will be playing party hits, top 40 tunes, mashups, reggae, rock and more. Champagne will be provided at midnight along with other party favours. Tickets are $50 and available from www.bdatix.com. For VIP Table reservations please call 704-0330.
ClearView Suites and Villas invite you to celebrate New Year’s Eve with them on Monday, December 31st. Cocktails will be served from 7pm, followed by a buffet dinner from 7.30pm until 9pm and then dancing until 2am. Tickets are $95 and include the buffet meal, appetisers, petit fours, a glass of champagne at midnight and NYE party favours. For tickets, contact kbdarose@gmail.com/537-2020, Grass Roots Productions, David Hughes on 518-3543 or LaVerne Furbert on 293-8232. To save you the trouble of getting a taxi home afterwards, ClearView are also offering special room rates for partygoers. For details, contact clearview@northrock.bm or 293-0484.
As you can see in the Quick Recap section below, there are lots of dinner options for NYE. But what about AFTER 2013 has arrived? Bouchée Restaurant will be offering an All-Nighter Breakfast from 12.30am until 12.30pm on New Year’s Day. No reservations are required and food is also available for take-out. Their breakfast menu is on their website at www.bouchee.bm and a Codfish breakfast will also be available.
A stylish start to 2013, the Caledonian Society of Bermuda’s Annual Burns Supper, will be at Tucker’s Point Hotel and Spa on Saturday, January 26th. A Burns Supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, author of many famous poems and songs. A few examples include Auld Lang Syne (yes, the one we all sing at New Year), To a Mouse (the phrase “the best laid schemes o’ mice and men gang aft agley” comes from this poem) and Tam O’ Shanter (considered by many to be one of the best examples of the narrative poem in European literature). You do NOT have to be a literary buff to enjoy this (Burns himself was a renowned drunken womaniser), you just have to enjoy cocktails, dinner, poetry and entertaining toasts and speeches. The pre-dinner cocktail reception (cash bar) will be from 6.30pm until 7.15pm, with the five-course dinner beginning at 7.30pm. The ticket price is $85 per person and available from IHind@becl.bm or online at www.ptix.bm. The link to the event on Facebook is here and it sold out last year so don’t delay in getting your tickets. Details on confirmed speakers and the menu will be at www.CaledonianSocietyofBermuda.com soon.
