Morning Troops!

Just to let you know that the End of the World scheduled for this Friday has been cancelled so, if you have been waiting to see how that turned out before organising yourself for Christmas, you might want to get your skates on.  Here are a few things coming up in Bermuda to keep you amused until the next apocalypse scare:

Students, are you interested in local opportunities with one of the Big Four?  If so, you won’t want to miss the PwC Student Networking Reception on Thursday, December 20th at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.  From 5.30pm until 8pm, you can learn about the Pricewaterhouse Coopers HeadStart programme and all the career options available to you from PwC.  To RSVP, contact Kimalita Lightbourne at 295-2000 ext. 7326 or email pwcbermuda.student@bm.pwc.com.

If  you’re looking for a fun programme to introduce your kids to Spanish and the Latin American culture, then the Christmas Break Spanish Camp at Warwick SDA Church might be an option to consider. The Camp is for 5 to 10 year olds and runs on Thursdays and Fridays, December 20th, 21st, 27th and 28th and will include crafts, cooking, Latin America cultural exposure and much more.    Drop off is at 8.15am, pick up is at 5.15pm and the registration cost is $25, $100 for all four days.  Space is limited but you can reserve your spot by contacting 335-3938 or spanishcamp@hotmail.com.

Promising a night of high energy, rock vibes and unique sound, Another Plane Crash is holding a concert at The Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge & Cafe on Friday, December 21st.  Entry is $10, doors open at 9pm, the show starts at 10pm and the after-party goes until 1pm.  The show will also be streaming live at www.Chewstick.org and more information is available from info@chewstick.org.

The Reefs are celebrating New Year’s Eve on Monday, December 31st with a choice of two different dinner options.  The first is seated at 6.30pm with a 5 course dinner at a cost of $95 per person and the second seating is at 8.30pm with a 6 course dinner (including a glass of champagne) for $115 per person.  If you’d like to start off 2013 in style, they are also giving you the option to upgrade your dinner to a staycation at a cost of $399 per room, based on two occupants and including breakfast.   For reservations, contact 236-0222 or fbcoord@thereefs.bm.

Looking ahead to 2013, L’Alliance Française des Bermudes have announced the film titles for the next two editions of their monthly Ciné Club at 8pm on the second Tuesday of the month at BUEI. Tuesday, January 15th will be The Chef, and Tuesday, February 8th will be Same Old Song. Tickets are $5 for members, $8 for non-members and $3 students. Full details can be found at www.alliancefrancaise.bm.

Opening hours are very changeable over the holiday season so the National Museum of Bermuda at Royal Naval Dockyard would like to let you all know that they will be open every day, with the exception of Christmas day, from 10am until 4pm.   There is a new permanent exhibit, Shipwreck Island: Sunken clues to Bermuda’s past, which features Bermuda’s earliest wrecks (over 1000 shipwreck artefacts on display) and also explores the people who discovered Bermuda’s earliest wrecks, underwater archaeology and the importance of protecting our underwater cultural heritage for future generations. The cost of admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and free for children under 13.

If you’re still looking for gift ideas, Masterworks are offering a great solution with their 25th Anniversary Book.  The book is available from the Masterworks Museum and Brown & Co, and is $125, with members receiving a 10% discount. If ordering in bulk, the price is $100 per book when purchasing more than ten.  For more information or to request a signed copy of the book please contact the museum on 299-4000.
