Just a quickie before the weekend:
As part of the Historical Heartbeats Winter Series, the North Village Band Concert will be adding a little extra atmosphere to late-night shopping on Friday, December 14th. From 5.30pm, they will be playing Christmas carols on the porch of the Bermuda Historical Society at Queen Elizabeth Park (formerly Par-la-Ville Park). This event is free to the public and some light refreshments, in the form of hot chocolate, hot apple cider, pumpkin cake, gingerbread and shortbread, will be served. The good folks in the East are offering Late Night Shopping in St. George’s tomorrow and on Saturday, December 22nd. In addition to this, there will be some special events tomorrow including a cookie and/or treat trail (participating stores will be offering free cookies and treats to customers while stocks last), Mrs. Claus and her elves giving out candy and the Olde Towne Market running from 1pm until 9pm. From 2.30pm until 4.15pm, there will be fundraising dunkings in aid of the victims of Hurricane Sandy. $1 will get you three balls to hurl at the volunteers. From 3pm until 5pm, there will be a Shop & Drop at the World Heritage Centre, where you can leave your 5 to 11 year olds to enjoy a movie and treats while you get your shopping done. Between 4pm until 9pm, DJ Ben Outerbridge will playing festive tunes on the square, there will be $5 hayrides around St. George’s with Crystal and from 4.30pm until 5.30pm, there will be snowball fights(!) at a cost of $5 per team of three. From 5pm until 7pm, Santa’s grotto will be on the square and from 7pm onwards, the Clearwater Middle School band, the Clearwater Middle school orchestra and the Clearwater Middle School drumline will be all over the Olde Towne playing. Finally, Hardcore Entertainment will be doing a wrestling demo on the square from 7.30pm until 9pm.
The next Chewstick Griot Session tomorrow, Saturday, December 15th will be hosted by Stephan Johnstone and promises a unique combination of Hip Hop, Soul and a quirky style with singer, rapper and songwriter, Makeem “Haz” Bartley. Haz will be preceded by opening act Delijah Symonds. Admission is $10, doors open at 9pm, showtime is at 10pm and the after-party goes until 1am. Still looking for somewhere to eat on December 25th? The Point at Rosewood Tucker’s Point is hosting a four-course Christmas Day lunch at 1pm, preceded by a cocktail and canapé reception from noon. The cost is $135 for adults and $65 for children aged 12 and under, and free for under-5s. For Christmas Dinner, The Point and Tucker’s Bar will be open as well and serving the regular a la carte menu. For reservations, contact 298-4070. If you’d rather have Christmas dinner in your own home, without having to cook, The Point is also offering a special Take Away menu on December 25th that includes pumpkin soup, roasted turkey with traditional garnishes and a classic Yule log for dessert at a cost of $75 per person. Another festive dining option, this time from Fourways Inn. Their Christmas Day Brunch will be from 11.30am with the last seating at 2.30pm. The cost is $56.75 for adults and $25 for children under 12. For more information, or to make a booking, call 236-6517.
A new one to add to the list of NYE options, thanks to Rosewood Tucker’s Point. Their newly-branded Clubhouse restaurant, Sul Verde, is hosting a New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner. The evening begins with cocktails and canapés from 7pm, followed by dinner at 8pm. The cost is $140 per person, excluding grats and beverages. For reservations, contact 298-4070.
More Hogmanay fun, this time from Pickled Onion. There is no cover charge for their NYE Party, which will include complimentary party favours and a countdown to midnight with Graffiti Park. The a la carte menu and bottle service will both be available. For more information, or to make a booking, call 295-2263.
Grotto Bay are currently running a special offer between now and the end of March. Their Winter Lunch Buffet is available from Monday to Saturday between noon and 3pm at a cost of $14.95 plus grats. For more details, or to make a reservation, contact 293-8333.
