Hi Kids!

A great opportunity to get tips from an expert as A.S. Cooper & Sons Limited are welcoming a Lancôme International Consultant today and Thursday.  To book your free beauty consultation, call 295-3961 ext. 405 and you’ll also receive a free gift with any purchase over the value of $60.

The next Chewstick Griot Session on Friday, August 31st promises to take audiences on a journey of conversation through poetry, reflecting and exploring a range of life’s experiences.   Award-winning poet Melodye Micëre Van Putten, accompanied by percussionist Thomas Lowery, will be preceded by opening act David O’Shea.  Admission is $10, doors open at 7pm and showtime is at 8pm.   For more details, contact 292-2439 or visit www.chewstick.org.

Another holiday weekend is coming our way – hurray – and UberVida are giving us an afternoon boating option to celebrate in style on Monday, September 3rd!  The UberVida Labour Day Party will depart Front Street at 2pm, returning at 6pm with club music by DJ Donovan New Era.  Coolers of ice will be provided so you can bring your own booze or purchase bottles there.  Tickets cost $40 each, or $30 each if you buy ten, and are available from www.ptix.bm.

The Department of Health in partnership with the Corporation of Hamilton will once again be hosting Celebrating Wellness in Victoria Park on Wednesday, September 12th. This free event is part of the ongoing Move More Campaign and Caribbean Wellness Day, encouraging the public to move more and lead a healthy lifestyle. From 5pm until 8pm, you’ll have access to Health Screening, Healthy Food, Health Information and giveaways, as well as activities to get you moving, such as Zumba, TRX, Line dancing, Tai Chi, old fashioned games and more.  For more information contact healthpromotion@gov.bm or 278-6504 or 278-6500.

Think we can all get together and clock up 10 thousand miles in a single day? Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, in partnership with Lindo’s Group of Companies, the Department of Health and several health agencies hope so as they are sponsoring Let’s Move Day on Sunday, September 23rd. Let’s Move Day is a community wide event with the aim of getting as many people as possible involved in physical activity on that day and a specific activity goal of generating 10 thousand miles island-wide (walk, run or cycle). There are three ways you can participate – join the Walking Club at Chaplin Bay at 7am, participate in one of two walking routes (East End route: Shelly Bay Field to the Arboretum or West End: TN Tatem Middle School to the Arboretum) or doing something on your own and logging your miles on the website. There will be a special obstacle course for children at the Arboretum from 3pm until 7pm and part proceeds will be used to support health promotion initiatives in schools. For more information, or to download a registration form, see www.health.gov.bm or call 292-4110
