Happy Friday Troops!
Don’t forget to watch out for the Blue Moon tonight – it’s not actually blue in colour, so don’t be too disappointed, but at least you can sing the song at it. The holiday weekend is almost upon us – here are the latest Bermuda events to keep you out of trouble:
Cosmopolitan Nightclub (the venue most recently known as Moon) is hosting IParty, a pre-Labour Day party on Saturday, September 1st. Doors open at 10pm, ladies are free before 11pm and music will be courtesy of YGS Ent, New Era and Supatone. Tickets are $20 on the door and $15 in advance from Kit ‘n’ Caboodle.
Not finding enough things to do for Sunday? Good news as there’s a three-in-one celebration going on in Hamilton as Summer Sundays in the Park will be combined with the City Family Festival and an Island Vibes After-Party! The September edition of Summer Sundays in the Park will have an Island Vibes theme and will be in the usual venue of Victoria Park from 3pm until 8pm. Power Girl will be MC at this free event, which will include entertainment from The Unit, Prestege, salsa dancers, Jahstice, Working Title, a limbo show, Bermuda School of Music Steel Pans, Gombeys and more. Food will be available for sale and there will also be a kids area with a fun castle, popcorn, face-painting and cotton candy.
The City Family Festival is another free event happening in that same area from 1pm until 7pm. Dundonald and Washington Streets, around Victoria Park, will include a kids area, video gaming, entertainment, fair stalls, an Evolution Models dunk tank, BSoA Quick Draw, go-karts and adult rides, fair stalls and food vendors.
After the free event in Victoria Park finishes at 8pm, the Island Vibes Old School Reggae After-Party will begin! This will feature music from DJ Chubb from Vibe 103 and DJ Mannie from Souljah1, as well as live performances by Jahmali and Princess Black (both backed by Conscious Bermuda), and a special Bob Marley tribute. Admission is $15 and part proceeds will go toward the participating charity of your choice – the Chewstick Foundation, the Women’s Resource Centre, New Beginnings and the Mirrors Programme.
Also on Sunday, Bermuda Bistro at the Beach are hosting a Labour Day Party from 10pm until 3am. Entry is free with music by YGS and $4 YGS shots all night long.
If your birthday is between August 23rd/24th and September 22nd/23rd, then they are celebrating YOU at the 5th Annual Virgo Birthday Bash: I Did It My Way on Saturday, September 8th **UPDATE: this has been postponed until September 22nd due to stupid Hurricane Leslie**. This event will be at Rumbar/Victoria Grill from 10.30pm and will feature music by iMega, DJ Aztec, China & Bussy and DJ Donnie. Tickets are $20 in advance from Kit ‘n’ Caboodle or more at the door.
What is the most fun thing you can think of doing in the dark? That’s right, volleyball!! BEPRO invites you to their Glow in the Dark Beach Volleyball, BBQ and Bonfire on Saturday, September 8th **UPDATE: this has been moved to September 29th due to stupid Hurricane Leslie** from 7pm until 10pm at Elbow Beach (the public end). You are invited to bring your own drinks and meat for the grill (also welcome to bring your own grill) and they’ll provide the glow in the dark net and balls, music and s’mores. There is no fee for joining in the volleyball and all are welcome! To register your team, or for any questions, contact Nathan at 704-0330 or nathanatcheson@gmail.com.
Many of you software developers out there will already be aware of the Bermuda .NET User Group, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing .NET development on the island by helping you share knowledge with and learn from one another.
The next event is coming up on Wednesday, September 12th in the Argus Building on Wesley Street. This will run from 5.30pm until 8pm and speaker Michael Branco <Flick>, CEO of Fireminds Ltd will talk about Developing for iOS with Objective-C. Not a Microsoft topic but they recognise that iOS is growing in popularity. This is a free event with wine, cheese and networking time included. To register online click here.
My Sereni-Tea on Reid Street are hosting a Women’s Healing Circle course on Thursday afternoons from 2pm until 3pm on September 13th, 20th and 27th. The cost is $95, which includes the Chakra Crystal set, pendulum and all course materials. A $50 deposit is required to secure your space. This three week course will explore topics such as Spirituality and what it is (and what it
is not!); What spiritual practices may best suit your lifestyle; The human energy system (chakras and colours); Crystals and their properties & how to
