Happy Friday Kids!

If all goes well, this should be the last post you see on the current site as the new-look NTDIB.com is unveiled next week!  I for one am very excited about it and can’t wait to show you all (really hope you all like it).  Here’s are the latest things to do in Bermuda:

The next Chewstick Griot Session tomorrow, Saturday, October 20th promises dancehall vibes with E-Levelz,  preceded by opening act Corvin Melody and followed by an after party with Lenky Bwoy. Admission is $10, doors open at 9pm and showtime is at 10pm. For more details, contact 292-2439 or visit www.chewstick.org.

The Adult Services Film Selection at Bermuda National Library this week is Insidious with showtimes at 11am and 2pm on Saturday, October 20th. All are welcome but they suggest you get there early since spaces are limited.

Café Ten are hosting a Cooking Demonstration with Chef Mike Knight at 6.30pm on Monday, October 22nd. Chef Mike will prepare some of his favorite dishes which will be paired with interesting wines provided by Burrows and Lightbourne! One lucky winner will receive a door prize and there are goodies bags for attendees while supplies last. The cost is $55 per person and you can reserve your spot by contacting Café Ten on 295-0857 or ten@yellowfin.bm.

The Bermuda Chapter of the CPCU Society are hosting a special Charity Zumba in aid of Melange.  This will be on two different dates at Magnum Power Force Gym, with spaces limited to 30 people at each event.  The first session will be on Thursday, October 25th at 7pm and the second will be on Saturday, October 27th at 2pm.  The cost is $30 per person and you can book your spot by contacting melange4@yahoo.com.

Next Saturday, October 27th is the last one of the month, which means that it’s Super Saturday at Masterworks in the Botanical Gardens! Each month has a different theme and this one will be How Does Your Garden Grow?, where families can participate in free harvest-themed arts and craft activities from 10am until 2pm. Full details can be found at www.bermudamasterworks.com!

The next concert by the Giant Steps Band, entitled Jazz Caravan: Brothers and Sistahs on Fire, is intended to seal the deal for their entry in the December 2013 Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba.  This will be at 8pm in City Hall Theatre on Saturday, October 27th will also feature Darlene Symonds, Gina Davis, Toni Robinson and Phiemma Caisey along with the newly formed Sax Attack Orchestra. Promoters Dale Butler MP and Darlene Symonds say this will be one of the greatest opportunities Bermudians will have to see the famed senior musician Clarence “Tootsie” Bean and band leader Max Maybury and the 6 piece Giant Steps Band.  Tickets are $50 and are available from Music Box or from ddbutler@logic.bm.

Another Halloween party is coming up on Saturday, October 27th – the I.O.P. and Secrets Annual Halloween Party Night! This will be at The Inferno Lounge from 10pm until 3am and is a ticket only event with D’General and New Era playing all genres of music, old and new. Tickets are $30 and available from Secrets in Washington Mall.

Another spooktacular party on the same night is Fet!sh at Rumbar. Costumes are mandatory for entry and iMega, DJ Keem, Rusty G and DJ Chubb will be spinning the tunes from 10pm until 3am. Tickets are $20 in advance (more at the door) and available from any of the DJs.

A great excuse to get dressed up and one of my favourite parties of the year – The Caledonian Society of Bermuda’s St. Andrew’s Ball will be at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday, November 24th.  You do NOT need to be Scottish to attend – you just have to enjoy good food, good company, drinking, dancing or any combination of those. The event kicks off with a cocktail reception (cash bar) from 6.30pm until 7.30pm, before seating guests at 8pm for a four-course dinner with wine, served after the Grand March and MC’s welcome. Dinner will be followed by the ceilidh portion of the evening (Scottish dancing, pronounced kay-lee), with live music from the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, and then you can dance the night away until 2am with DJ King Arthur. To teach you the dance moves, there will be a free practice run at the Police Recreation Club, near Cedarbridge Academy in Devonshire, on the Wednesday before the Ball (November 21st from 7pm until 9.30pm). Dress code is black tie and tickets are $150 each, including everything but additional drinks. To purchase tickets for individuals, couples or whole tables (10 to 12 people), contact Ian Hind at IHind@becl.bm or pay online at www.ptix.bm. For more details, see www.CaledonianSocietyofBermuda.com.

To celebrate their #3 spot on the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Spa List for 2012 in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas, La Serena Spa at the Reefs are running a special offer until November 30th.  If you book one spa treatment at full price, you can try another for 50% off!

T.K. Hair on Church Street are currently running a special for October.  In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they are offering hot pink hair extensions for a special price of $25 each.  100% of proceeds will go to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.
