October 24th, 2012

Hi Kids!

The Internet Gods were not smiling down on me yesterday but I’m hoping for a little more luck today!  The new-look website should be available by the end of today but, don’t worry, you’ll still be kept up-to-date no matter what version of the site is up.  Here are the latest Bermuda events:

Now that summer has officially ended, Lemon Tree are trying to empty out their fridge and would like us to help this Friday, October 26th!  If you attended any of their Random Animal in the Park Parties this summer (Pig, Fish or Cow in the Park), then you simply have to wear your tshirt to get 2-for-1 drinks all night.  If you didn’t get one already, you can buy one for $25.  The All in the Park Party will also be the last Lemon Tree Happy Hour of the season and will run from 5pm until midnight.

Another fond farewell as the Fairmont Hamilton Princess are also finishing up their Happy Hour for the 2012 season and their final one is also on Friday, October 26th.

Due to its popularity at the weekend’s Bermuda Documentary Film Festival (Bermuda Docs), there will be one more chance for you to see The Queen of Versailles on Friday, October 26th.  The extra screening will be at BUEI at 6.30pm and more details on the film are available at www.bermudadocs.com.  Tickets are $15 and available at Oceans Gift Shop or by phoning 297-7314.

Time to start planning your gift list!  To help you out with this, there is a Huge Sale at St. Anthony’s Church Hall, Warwick on Friday, October 26th, from 11am until 7pm and then Saturday, October 27th, from 9am until 5pm. The sale promises something for everyone, including Avon products at drastically reduced prices (including costume jewelry, watches, shoes and undergarments), household items, cups and saucers, collectibles (including figurines, dolls, salt & pepper shakers), baskets, religious items, and Christmas decorations and other seasonal items. For more information, contact arlenebda@gmail.com.

A few more events have been finalised as part of the Bermuda Corporate Games this weekend.  Mickey’s Beach Party will be on Friday, October 26th and promises live music, bonfire and beach BBQ at Mickey’s Bistro and Bar at Elbow Beach from 7.30pm until 2am.  This event is free to Games participants with a badge, while general admission tickets cost $40, which includes an American-style beach BBQ buffet, a welcome cocktail, a drink ticket, live music from Prestege and entry to the after-party at the Deep.  Tickets are available from www.ptix.bm, the Games Village on Front Street or at the door.

The following night, Satuday, October 27th will be a party for the community in a unique event on Front Street.  Streetfest will kick off at 7pm with a parade of over 1000 atheletes marching down Front Street, lead by the Bermuda Gombeys. This will feature international food stalls, cocktail bars, and entertainment from Ronnie Lopes, the Kennel Boys, Clifton David, DJ Smokey and other special guests.  The fun will go on until midnight and admission is free.

Cosmopolitan Nightclub might have a new name but they are bringing back their Lost Souls Halloween Party for 2012!  This will now be on two evenings, Saturday, October 27th AND Sunday, October 28th (Sunday is especially for hospitality workers and the gay community). This will be from 9pm until 3am, featuring complimentary blood potions, music from DJ Supatone, and 2-for-1 drinks and complimentary food until 11pm. The sexiest and scariest outfits will received cash prizes, while the hottest couple costume will win a bottle of champagne.  There is no cover charge before 1am and $10 entry between 1am and 2.30am.  To get on the guest list, send a text to 705-2582 with your name.

Another Halloween Party on Saturday, October 27th, this time over at Bermuda Bistro at the Beach.  Their Halloween Costume Party begins at 10pm, with music by Y.G.S. Entertainment and prizes for the best costume being awarded at 12.30pm.  Entry is free.

A little further down that road and you will find our next Front Street Halloween Party on Saturday night.  Docksiders are hosting a Dead Celebrities Halloween Costume Party from 9pm with music by King Jyrus and Twin Starr.  Entry is $20 with a costume or $25 without.

Friends of Hospice, the charity supporting Agape House, present their annual Walk to Remember on Sunday, October 28th. This is a pledge walk of around 3K,  to remember those we have loved and lost, and there will be a prize for the most money raised for Bermuda’s only hospice. Registration starts at 8.30am in the Botanical Gardens Visitor Centre, with the opening ceremony at 8.45am and the walk starting at 9am. Pledge forms are availalbe at City Esso in Hamilton, Agape House, Party Plus or online at www.friendsofhospice.bm.

The Bermuda Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) is holding their Annual Halloween Party on Halloween itself.  From 7pm until 11pm on Wednesday, October 31st, they invite you to come in costume and enjoy a cash bar with spooky cocktails, zombie brain stew and blood red jelly. This will be at the BSAC Clubhouse in Admiralty Park and entry is free. For more information, or to RSVP, contact membership@bsac.bm.

Of particular interest to divers, historians and treasure-hunters, the inaugural Bermuda International Shipwreck Conference will be held at BUEI on Saturday, November 3rd.  From 9am to 5pm, anyone interested in shipwrecks is invited to come and learn more.  Attendees of this event will earn 8 credit hours towards the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) Part II certification.  Admission is free and you can register by contacting nhutchings@logic.bm.

Discovery Wines will be transforming the parking lot at their warehouse to celebrate “Purple Love in a Bottle” as they host their first ever Zin Din on Saturday, November 3rd!  From 6pm, they will be teaming up with Get-Er-Done BBQ to celebrate all things Zinfandel. The price is $85 for the BBQ with Zinfandel or $75 if you bring your own bottle of Zinfandel to share with the party. Spaces are limited and you can reserve your spot by calling 296-9463.

If you’ve ever been interested in growing your own veggies then you’ll want to get in touch with Frances Eddy.  Her Grow Biointensive Gardening Course starts on Sunday, November 4th and runs for 4 consecutive Sundays from 9am until 11.30am. Frances has been teaching this course for over ten years and the cost is $100, which includes a $25 book.  Registration is open until Friday and you can secure your spot by contacting Franceseddy@logic.bm or 238-0059.

Why wait until New Year to start new and healthier pursuits?  From 7.15pm until 11pm on Tuesdays and Thursday, badminton is played at the BAA Gymnasium in Pembroke and they welcome players of all levels.  A fee of $10 per evening is payable if you’re not a BAA member and you can even borrow a racquet.  For more information, contact John Turner at jturner@baa.bm.
