Here are the latest island events to warm your hearts this Valentine’s Day.  And speaking of Valentine’s Day, whose idea was it to schedule Ash Wednesday on the same day this year??  Now I can’t take advantage of the post-V Day chocolate sales, like I usually do!

Looking to do something different this Valentine’s Night?  If so, then Scribbles Art Shack are putting an artsy spin on it at Valentine’s Night with a Twist on Wednesday, February 14th.

Enjoy 7 days of art activities at Family Week at Bermuda National Gallery from Monday, February 12th to Sunday, February 18th.

BNG is hosting many fun-filled art activities for families and children in the community during the school mid-term break. BNG values family time through creative expressions and art-making.

 

On Wednesday, February 14th, you can celebrate Valentine’s Day @BNG with an Art Talk with Ruth E. Thomas (former teacher and Bermuda’s first cultural officer) at 11am.  The Talk will focus on Bermudian traditions, including love, courtship and marriage.  This event is free and space is limited.

 

 

 

 

On Thursday, February 15th, you are invited to a Reading of Woolcock’s Wonders in the Children’s Gallery at 10.30am.  This is free to all children; all children will receive a Peter Woolcock booklet.  Space is limited so you are asked to book in advance.

 

 

 

 

On Friday, February 16th, you can complete the BNG Scavenger Art Hunt and spend time with your family and friends exploring the exhibition, The Power of Art. Every child receives a gift.  This event is free to all children.

 

 

 

 

 

On Sunday, February 18th, you can visit the BNG Sculptures in the Queen Elizabeth Park on Par-la-Ville Road in the City of Hamilton. Post a photo of your favourite sculpture to Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook using hashtag #BNG.

Take advantage of an opportunity to develop your skills as the Youth Leadership Workshop starts on Thursday, February 15th.

From 5.45pm in the OHU (Operational Health Unit) Boardroom, upstairs in the Community Education Office on the Corner of Court and Front Street, this eight session workshop is designed to enable participants to develop their communication and leadership skills through practical experience.

The program will run for 8 weeks beginning February 15th and concluding on April 12th.

There is no cost and all youth are welcome.

The Bermuda Historical Society invite you to join them as Andy Bermingham will speak on Bermuda’s Prisoners of War in Bermuda over the centuries on Fridays, February 16th and 23rd.

From 11am at the Bermuda Historical Society, there will also be many items from the Boer prisoners held on the Great Sound Islands in 1901-1902.

The book Boer Prisoners of War, written by Colin Benbow, is on sale for $10.  Also by A Bermingham, Bermuda’s Military Rareties is available at a revisited priced of $10, as well as other books.

Couldn’t get away on Valentine’s? Looking for an opportunity to take that much needed break?  Then send your 5 to 12 year olds to Francis Patton PTA’s Valentine’s Glow Dance on Friday, February 16th.

Doors to the school assembly hall open at 6.30pm and they will be entertained by popular DJ Markie T of Vibe103, while enjoying the company of friends and dancing to the tunes they all love.

Entry is $10 and includes 2 complimentary glow sticks. Additional glow sticks will be on sale, along with hot dogs, juice boxes and snacks.

Masterworks invite you to Off The Wall: A Free Form Art Event on Saturday, February 17th,

From 8pm until midnight, they promise an all-out DJ art party that you won’t want to miss.  This event is for those aged 18 and over.

King’s-Edgehill School are returning to Bermuda to continue their meetings with prospective families and reconnect with current and past families as King’s-Edgehill School (Canada) in Bermuda on Monday, February 19th.

In honour of Black History Month, the Bermuda National Library and the U.S. Consulate will host a Movie Screening of Marshall on Thursday, February 22nd.

From 6pm at Bermuda National Library, Marshall tells the story of a young courageous lawyer, Thurgood Marshall, during one of his first major cases as counsel for the NAACP. In a conservative Connecticut, Marshall teams up with young Jewish lawyer Samuel Friedman to defend a black chauffeur who has been charged by his employer – a wealthy socialite- of sexual assault and attempted murder.

Admission is free. Due to limited seating, guests will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.

The Honorary Austrian Consul for Bermuda and The Bermuda International Film Festivals Purpose Trust are hosting A Special Film Screening of The Last Salon on Saturday, February 24th.

This will start at 7.30pm in the Trudeau Ballroom of the Hamilton Princess Hotel.  The Last Salon by Joachim Dennhardt is about Austrian Sissy Strauss, a renowned opera star of the NY Metropolitan Opera. The film recently won the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Award and is a tribute to her Last Salon in New York and returning to her hometown in Vienna. The film is a musical and colorful view into her spectacular townhome and the experience of the famous Viennese Salons.

The ticket price includes a welcome drink, canapés, chamber orchestra music, film screening and door price.  Seating is limited and a cash bar will be available from 7.30pm until 11pm.

You asked for it, they deliver – Bonfires and BBQs is back for its Winter Edition on Thursday, March 1st.

From 7pm until 11pm on Front Street, between Burnaby and Parliament Streets, you can enjoy some BBQ action as the area is transformed into a melting pot of fire and S’mores.  Enjoy live music by local favourites Olivia Hamilton, Island Teazza and Working Title. There will be vendors on hand serving up your favourite delicacies and have a go at Bermuda’s official game, Crown & Anchor.

This event is for attendees aged 18 and older and ID is required.  The rain date will be Friday, March 2nd.
