BUEI Talks presents: What Does 2019 Hold For You? with Jen Young on Wednesday, September 19th.

Join for an exciting book launch and talk on Numerology with numerologist, Jen Young. Using the Science of Numerology allows one to understand the theme of each year. It is an energetic road map of one’s life. Jen’s new book gives a simple and clear explanation, a forecast for this year and future years.

Knowing the Personal Year for others and one’s self gives insight into the challenges and gifts of each year. Numerology assists in decision making, both in one’s personal and professional life. Timing is everything and this little handbook gives the gift of ‘perfect timing’.

At 7pm the event begins with a book signing, followed by the lecture at 7:30pm. Ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner at the Harbourfront (food only) before or after the talk. Representatives from 60 leading boarding schools are eager to meet prospective students and their families at the annual International Schools Fair Bermuda on Wednesday, September 19th, and Thursday, September 20th.

This will take place in the Hamilton Princess Hotel’s Harbour View Ballroom on each of these days, from 4pm until 8pm, where traditional boarding schools from The United States, Canada, Switzerland and The United Kingdom will be available to chat and answer any questions.

The event is for students ages 8-18 and there is no cover charge, although registration is recommended.

The Priscilla Wilkinson Business Awards will be given out on Thursday, September 20th.

Well known for her famous greeting “Why Ya Want?”, Mrs. Wilkinson played a key role as a business woman in the Court Street area and awards will be given to: Place’s Cafe, Jennifer Brimmer and Social Club for their commitment to business, service and community.

The event will be held from 6pm until 7:45pm at the Social Club on the corner of Princess and Dundonald Street.

The Bermuda Zoological Society invite you to join them for another lecture, Adventure Travel: Play with a Purpose on Thursday, September 20th.

From 7pm until 8:30pm at in the BZS classroom at the Aquarium, Vanesse Flood, kayaker and paddle boarder will present her talk on “Kayaking across Britain in search of plastic litter”, and tell about her eco-vacation, citizen science, plastic pollution and what we can do about it.

This event is open to the public and entry to the lecture is free, although space is limited. A donation of $5 is gratefully accepted. Visit Bamz.org to register beforehand.

All artists and art lovers are invited to come and experience the works of local artists in the new exhibitions opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts in City Hall on Friday, September 21st.

The BSoA Members Fall Show will be showing in the Onions Gallery, featuring works from the gallery’s member artists in various mediums.

The Edinburgh Gallery will feature Roots to Royalty by Vanessa Turner,  a new series created to encourage and empower those who have been marginalised in both fine art and mainstream media.

Studios A & B will be showing Plan B Returns by Hannah Emmerson & Erika Mattatal. Childhood friends come back for a new series of beautiful works, that are both so different and so in sync.

The shows will run until Tuesday, October 16th.

Opening hours at BSoA are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.

No need to hire a sitter for the weekend as Scribbles Art Shack are hosting a Movies & Canvas Paint Night for Kids on Friday, September 21st.

From 6pm until 8:45pm at their premises within the Old Berkeley Cultural Centre, children ages 6 and up can learn canvas painting with step-by-step assistance. The theme is Starry Night Bermuda. Food will be provided with a choice of Cheese or Pepperoni Pizza (2 slices each, with popcorn and water.) Children will watch a movie after painting and should bring along a pillow or blanket of some sort.

BUEI Films presents: An American in Paris, the Live Cinema Series on Saturday, September 22nd.

The four-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, inspired by the Oscar-winning MGM film of the same name, tells the story of discovering love in the City of Light in 1945. An American GI’s chance encounter with a beautiful young dancer in Paris becomes the backdrop to a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship and love in the aftermath of war. An American in Paris features the music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin, stunning designs and show-stopping choreography.

The film begins at 5pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium.You can even make a night of it since Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event. Learn sketching from a local artist in the Adult Art Workshops with Emma Ingham at Masterworks, starting on Tuesday, September 25th.

This will run for six weeks, every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm until 8pm, until November 1st.

Enjoy an informative lesson, sometimes working on location, and go beyond ‘seeing’ to capture the emotion and gesture of your subject.

Participants should have some drawing experience; be willing to follow directions, and have a ‘can-do’ attitude, with a desire to bend the rules.

The cost per session is $40 for member or $45 for non-members.

The Bermuda National Library invite you to join them at their 4th annual Open House and Big Book Sale on Saturday, September 29th.

Running from 9am until 4pm, you can stop by the Library on Queen Street to snag previously enjoyed books for $50 cents each. Enjoy free popcorn while browsing hundreds of titles from all genres. All proceeds from the book sale will help support Friends of the Library.

This event is one of the great things they have planned for Library Card Sign-Up Month. You can also expect; quick and easy library card sign up, guided tours, genealogical and World War II resources from the library and archives, film screenings, Bermuda Authors, and student resources. Visit the various stations throughout the library for free give-aways and treats, or complete the trivia for a chance to enter the raffle draw.

Due to the resounding of success of their previous sale, the Peace Lutheran Church are hosting another Car Boot Sale this month on Saturday, September 29th.

From 9am until 2pm, there will be plenty of fabulous bargains in women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, shoes, scrubs, household items, gifts, jewellery, plants, toys, books and so much more. You can even enjoy coffee and hot dogs whilst shopping.

Come celebrate the start of rugby season at the Rugby Kick Off Party on Saturday, September 29th.

Starting at 8pm at Bermuda Sailors Home Mariners Club, this event is for cowboys and aliens only, so saddle up and beam yourself over. DJ Dan will provide the tunes.

Join the chefs of The Loren and their friends, as they invite you to a farm and sea to table dinner, Chefs On The Beach on Saturday, September 29th.

The event starts at 6pm, on the beach at The Loren, where you will experience a sustainable menu cultivated with locally sourced ingredients. Hang with the chefs of the hotel, and some of their friends, as they cook and talk food.

Their culinary team will host visiting New York Chef Kris Sullivan, of Aldo Sohm Wine Bar and former Sous Chef of Le Bernardin, as well as local Chef Chris Duperreault.

First Class, a free admission event hosted by Twin Starr and DJ Mystro, will be held at Strykz Bowling Lounge on Saturday, September 29th.

From 9pm until 3am, they’ll be playing the latest in Hip Hop, Dancehall, Soca and RnB. A blacklight and bottle sparklers will add to the ambiance.
The restaurant will be open all night and the bar accepts cash and credit cards.

The next event in the Bermudian Heartbeats lecture series is Gombeys and Traditions of the Diaspora: A Symposium on Sunday, October 7th.

This will be held from 2pm until 4pm in the Cedarbridge Academy Cafeteria.

Featured guest speakers will include: Dr. Sydney Hutchinson, Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology, Syracuse University, presenting
“Gombeys, Goombay, and Guloyas: A View from the Hispanic Caribbean”; Mr. Wills Glasspiegel, Ph.D. Candidate, Yale University and co-founder of Open the Circle, presenting “Montage and Masquerade: Documenting Dance from Sierra Leone to Chicago”; Dr. Quito Swan, Professor of History, Howard University, presenting “Black Eldorado: Bermuda, Race and Gombey’s Diaspora”; and Ms. Veronica Yearwood, Antigua Dance Academy, presenting “Through the Eyes of the Masquerader: The Intangible Bond of Caribbean Movement, Music and Mas.”

Open to anyone interested in improving their public speaking and communication skills, Bermuda Toastmasters will hold a Speechcraft Workshop on Sunday, October 14th.

Speechcraft is a series of short, practical sessions in public speaking for those looking to overcome anxiety or to improve communication skills. Attendees will be a part of a learning, supportive and friendly environment. This will also be an opportunity to meet new people, network, while learning new techniques.

From 4pm to 6pm at the OHU Boardroom at the corner of Front and Court Street, the workshop will be held every Sunday evening for five consecutive weeks, finishing on November 11th.

The cost of the workshop is $40 and includes all materials.

Come and get to know which US Boarding Schools specialise in learning differences at the Learning Differently 2018 School Fair on Wednesday, October 17th.

This will take place from 4pm until 7pm at the Hamilton Princess Hotel, presenting boarding schools in the United States that specialise in dealing with Learning Challenges such as ADHD, Dyslexia and children on the spectrum. The event is being coordinated and hosted by K.I.M’s (Kids In Mind) List, an online parent directory, and local and overseas vendors are welcome to be apart of the event.

Prepare to feel a shiver down your spine as Bermudian Heartbeats are collaborating with St. Peter’s Church to bring you Haunted Bermuda: An Evening of Spooky Storytelling on Saturday, October 20th.

The event begins at 6pm at the Unfinished Church. Join for an evening of wonderfully scary, spooky, original stories written by Florenz Maxwell, Catherine Hay, Mike Jones, Andrea Ottley, Julie Irving, and Liz Jones.

This event is free to the public.

The 2018 Bermuda International Championship Dog Shows will be held in the Main Ring at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st.

Running from 8:30am until 3:30pm on both days, this will feature four international championship all breed dog shows. There will be a morning show and an afternoon show each day, with a Junior Handling Competition between the two shows each day.

Please note that only dogs entered in the shows are allowed on the grounds.

Admission to the shows is free for spectators. Food will be available for purchase from deGraffs Lunch Wagon.
