February 20th, 2019 Bermuda Calendar Update

Here’s your weekly update with all of the latest events that have been added to the Bermuda Calendar since last week. Because good champagne never goes out of style, Marcus’ is hosting a Vintage Champagne Dinner on Friday, February 22nd.

From 7pm until 9:30pm at the restaurant at the Hamilton Princess hotel, you are invited to toast with celebrated champagne and decadent dishes. A four-course meal will be matched with the perfect vintage champagne, including; Dom Perignon, Veuve Cliquot, and Ruinart.

The cost is $225 per person, plus gratuities.

The Garden Club of Bermuda invites all to attend a presentation of the Skills Development Program, an innovative horticultural curriculum for youth, administered by Roger Parris and Sam Santucci of the Department of Parks, on Monday, February 25th.

From 6pm until 7:30pm at the Anglican Cathedral Church Hall, they are welcoming three officials; Rev. Christopher College, Nicholas College and Christopher Evans from Bournemouth in the U.K.

Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.

BUEI & Crimestoppers present the 2nd Annual Weekend Film Experience, which will run from Thursday, February 28th until Sunday, March 3rd.

This is an opportunity to watch five great movies which would not normally screen at local, commercial cinemas. Funds raised from the Weekend Film Experience will enable Crime Stoppers Bermuda to develop a 2019 multimedia awareness campaign.

The festival open with The Favourite on Thursday, February 28th at 7:30pm. Set in early 18th century England, a frail Queen Anne occupies the throne and her close friend, Lady Sarah, governs the country in her stead. When a new servant, Abigail, arrives her charm endears her to Sarah. Tickets are $20 for Adults, $15 for Students and available from www.Ptix.bm/TheFavourite.

The second film, The Guilty starts on Friday, March 1st at 7:30pm. The Guilty tells the story of a police officer who assigns alarm dispatch duty and enters a race against time when he answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students and available from www.Ptix.bm/TheGuilty.

The third film, Big Fish and Begonia is a wonderfully animated movie which tells the tale of a 16-year-old girl who travels to the human world in the form of a dolphin and forms a connection with a human boy. The film starts at 1:30pm on Saturday, March 2nd. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students and available from www.Ptix.bm/BigFish&Begonia.

The fourth film in the weekend experience, Disobedience starts at 3pm on Sunday, March 3rd. A woman returns to her Orthodox Jewish community that shunned her for her attraction to a female childhood friend. Once back, their passions reignite as they explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students and available from www.Ptix.bm/Disobedience.

The fifth and final film, C’est la Vie! will also premier on Sunday, March 3rd at 5:30pm. The story is about a hectic wedding party held in an 17th century French palace that comes together with the help of the behind-the-scenes staff. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students and available from www.Ptix.bm/C’estlavie.

MS Awareness Week: 2nd Annual Swimathon will take place at Bermuda National Sports Centre on Saturday, March 2nd.

MS Awareness Week’s goal is to increase public awareness and understanding of Multiple Sclerosis, and to raise necessary funds to assist MS sufferers with medical needs.

The Swimathon will run from 10am until 4pm. If you are a swimmer, or know of one who would like to help, they invite you to contact them for participant information and pledge forms, or visit the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Bermuda Facebook page.

The fist session in Harry’s Wine School: Falling For Red will take place on Saturday, March 2nd.

This will be held from 2pm until 4pm at Harry’s Restaurant, where you can join an intimate and educational class about wine from Bordeux. The class will continue weekly and explore five different red wines, from a new region, each week. Each wine will coat your glass with their stunning hues.

Subsequent classes will feature wines from: Argentina on Saturday, March 9th; Italy on Saturday, March 16th; Chile on Saturday, March 23rd.

The cost is $85 per person and reservations are limited. If your are hungry before class, you can enjoy lunch at Harry’s with a complimentary glass of Prosecco or Mimosa. All wines will be available for purchase after class, from Miles Market.

Try a new approach to your health with Iyengar Yoga For Beginners, a new 6-week course, starting on Tuesday, March 12th.

This unique style of yoga encourages precise alignment and mindful movement, often utilising a variety of props to help students safely achieve and hold poses for maximum benefit. Iyengar yoga provides an ideal foundation for new students, and offers a comprehensive platform for more experienced students to advance their practice.

Classes will be held weekly at The Club at Fritholme Gardens (Elbow Beach), on Tuesdays 8-9pm, Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm, Fridays 7:45-8:45pm, and Saturdays 10:45-11:45am. The course is suitable for students of all abilities, ages 16+.

The cost is $150 for the entire course.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust will be sailing into Bermuda from Antigua on the Tall Ship Lord Nelson, on Thursday, March 21st.

This is your opportunity to get involved in a fantastic charity and sail onboard one of the only purpose built tall ships in the world. The Jubilee Sailing Trust’s vision is of an inclusive world where we can all contribute and feel valued. Their unique mission is to give people of mixed abilities and circumstances the freedom to explore their ability, potential and place in the world through inclusive adventures at sea.

The Tall Ship will berth on Front Street where it will remain until Sunday, March 24th when it leaves again for Weymouth, UK. Anyone over the age of 16 is invited to join the next voyage, sail the ship and get involved in all aspects of ship life.

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association are hosting Open Houses on Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th.

They invite you to come and explore the gym, to see if gymnastics is right for you, and learn about the variety of programs they offer for all ages.

Visit their location in the Saltus Gymnasium (St. John’s rd) on Saturday, March 23rd from 2:30pm to 4pm. This location caters to children under 12 years old.

Or visit their St. David’s location (35 Southside rd) on Sunday, March 24th from 10am to Noon. This location caters to all ages, including adults.
