Back by popular demand for a second-showing, BUEI Films presents: The Favourite on Thursday, March 14th.

Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

BUEI Films & Bermuda National Trust presents: Project Wild Thing on Thursday, March 28th.

David Bond is concerned. His kids’ waking hours are dominated by a cacophony of marketing, and a screen dependence threatening to turn them into glassy-eyed zombies. Like city kids everywhere, they spend way too much time indoors. He decides it’s time to get back to nature…literally. In an attempt to compete with the brands, which take up a third of his daughter’s life, Bond appoints himself Marketing Director for Nature and sets about developing a campaign and a logo. With the help of a number of bemused professionals, he is soon selling Nature to British families. His humorous journey unearths some painful truths about modern family life. His product is free, plentiful and has proven benefits – but is Nature past its sell-by date?

The film starts at 7:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium, followed by a Q&A session.

Harbourfront opens for dinner at 5pm, and ticket holders are entitled to a 10% discount (food only) when dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are required.  Please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers. And yes, before you ask, Village Pantry’s famous Chicken & Waffles are on the menu – yum! Bar: This year’s bar experience promises to blow you away with Mimosa and Bloody Mary stations, plus all your favourite cocktails. There will also be an infused craft water & soda bar with sweetened and unsweetened choices. The new Rum Punch will be on special, and, just in time for your summer events, RBP signature reusable carafes will also be available for purchase.

Day Party: After you eat, you dance! Be prepared to dance the day away, with some of Bermuda’s best DJs, playing the top hits and your favourites in R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Soca and more.

The Leopards’ Club proudly presents Leadership: The Compass to Success on Sunday, May 19th.

This luncheon will take place from 1pm until 2:30pm at the Leopards’ Club, where you can enjoy local food and a live lecture, that they promise has not been witnessed since the likes of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. This promises to be a learning experience to talk about for weeks.

Speakers include Khalid Wasi, Manders Ingham and Craig Walls, who all have a wealth of knowledge about Bermuda’s black businesses and the handicaps they have faced along the way. Along with businessman, Nelson Hunt, the 4 speakers will give insight that is usually reserved for textbooks years after they have passed. This is a golden opportunity to hear the truth and ask questions during a luncheon that follows the education tradition developed by the Founders of the Leopards’ Club whose supper lectures were often terminated because race was mentioned. Such events were covered in a book penned by the late MP and businessman Hilton G. Hill II entitled “Choir Number 1 and Choir Number 2.”

The luncheon ticket is $45.

For more information, or to purchase advance tickets, contact Dale Butler at 595-9841 or daledbutler@gmail.com.
