To mark the occasion of The Eurovision Song Contest, Docksiders is hosting a Eurovision Party on Saturday, May 18th.

Doors open at 3pm and the fun begins at 4pm, when they’ll stream the Euro Vision Song Contest live from Tel Aviv, Israel. At 8pm, once Eurovision has ended, there will be time to get some food and more drinks before Karaoke kicks off at 8:30pm in the Backroom. Everyone is welcome to attend and highly encouraged to dress up in their favourite country’s attire.

For those not in the know, The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual contest in which certain European countries (and Australia) submit an original song to be performed on live television. The European countries (and Australia) vote on each country’s song to determine the winner and the host country is the country that won the previous year. Eurovision is sometimes lauded as a gaudy, tacky contest but it has given success to many famous artists such as Abba, Celine Dion, Riverdance, Olivia Newton John and the one and only Cliff Richard…..so yes, it is pretty tacky – but that’s all part of the appeal!

Here is a video which explains Eurovision in all its glory: https://youtu.be/kIcjd8tkdoc?t=102

In the sanctuary of the doctor’s house the two women find themselves drawn to one another in a way that Jean recognizes and fears, and Lydia could never have expected. But, in 1950’s small-town Britain, their new secret can’t stay hidden forever

Back for a second showing, BUEI Screens presents: Red Joan on Tuesday, May 21st.

Joan Stanley (Academy Award Winner Judi Dench) is a widow living out a quiet retirement in the suburbs when, shockingly, the British Secret Service places her under arrest. The charge: providing classified scientific information—including details on the building of the atomic bomb—to the Soviet government for decades.

As she is interrogated, Joan relives the dramatic events that shaped her life and beliefs: her student days at Cambridge, where she excelled at physics while challenging deep-seated sexism; her tumultuous love affair with a dashing political radical; and the devastation of World War II, which inspired her to risk everything in pursuit of peace. Based on a sensational true story, Red Joan vividly brings to life the conflicts—between patriotism and idealism, love and duty, courage and betrayal—of a woman who spent a lifetime being underestimated while quietly changing the course of history.

The film begins at 7:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. At 5pm Harbourfront opens for dinner and ticket holders are entitled to 10% off (food only) before or after the film. Reservations required. Please call 295-4207 for reservations and be sure to mention the film. Cannot be combined with any other special offers.

Tickets are $15 for adults or $12 for students and are non-refundable within 24 hours of event. Tickets are available from www.Ptix.bm or by calling or visiting BUEI’s Oceans Gift Shop.
