Summertime in Bermuda is synonymous with Cup Match, and the Family Centre wants you to get ready by participating in Cup Match Tag Day on Wednesday, July 31st.

The all-day fundraiser invites you to show support for your favourite team – whether Somerset or St. George’s – through your purchase of the Family Centre’s Cup Match Ribbons. Your participation and donations will help them to provide programmes and services that strengthen vulnerable children and families in Bermuda.

They need you to help make Cup Match Tag Day a success, and are looking for volunteers, for an hour or more. There are volunteer spots available every hour, from 6am until 8pm, at locations island-wide. To sign up, visit https://www.tfc.bm/tagday/.

You can also join in the fun by participating in the “TAG! You’re It!” online Tag Day. To participate, change your Facebook profile picture to represent your Cup Match team, and challenge two friends to make a donation. To make a donation, visit https://www.tfc.bm/donate-now/.

For more information, contact Hannah Collins at 232-1116 or FundDevelopment@tfc.bm.

The 2019 Annual Cup Match Classic, a two-day cricket match between players selected from the east and west of the island to represent St. George’s and Somerset Cricket Clubs, will take place this year on Thursday, August 1st and Friday, August 2nd.

This tradition and friendly rivalry has been going on since 1902, and unofficially for decades before that. Cup Match has grown to encompass so much more than cricket. It’s a time when families and friends, both old and new, come together to enjoy the festivities of the event. Cup Match observes an important time in Bermuda’s history, reminding us all to reflect and rejoice. The whole island cherishes these two days as a time for sport, entertainment, fun in the sun, and more. Residents come together as they cheer on their favourite cricket teams and see which side will take home the silverware… and bragging rights for the next year!

Gates open at 6:30am on each day with the match beginning at 10am. Ticket price is $20 for Adults, $10 for Children 12 & under and $10 for Seniors over 65. Tickets can be purchased online at www.Ptix.bm or pay cash at the gate.

BIFFFlix presents the documentary film Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am on Wednesday, August 7th.

The documentary offers an artful and intimate meditation on the life and works of the legendary storyteller and Nobel prize-winner. From her childhood in the steel town of Lorain, Ohio to ‘70s-era book tours with Muhammad Ali, from the front lines with Angela Davis to her own riverfront writing room, Toni Morrison leads an assembly of her peers, critics and colleagues on an exploration of race, America, history and the human condition as seen through the prism of her own literature.

Inspired to write because no one took a “little black girl” seriously, Morrison reflects on her lifelong deconstruction of the master narrative. Woven together with a rich collection of art, history, literature and personality, the film includes discussions about her many critically acclaimed works, including novels “The Bluest Eye,” “Sula” and “Song of Solomon,” her role as an editor of iconic African-American literature and her time teaching at Princeton University.

The film starts at 6:30pm at Specialty Cinema. Running time is 120 minutes and the film is rated PG-13.

Tickets are $15 and available from www.Ptix.bm or the cinema box office.

For more information, contact 293-3456, or info@biff.bm.

Mysteries and Majesties is a new tour of St. Peter’s Church held twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Bermuda’s British heritage runs deep, but perhaps no place is it more pronounced than at St. Peter’s Church where the history of the British Royal Family drifts through the place like a Sunday hymn. It’s the world’s oldest Protestant Church in continuous use and a vault of priceless cultural treasures spanning 400 years, from King James to Prince Charles.

Experience the only tour that opens the vault door and unhooks the velvet ropes, revealing artefacts very few have ever witnessed.

The 30-min tour starts at 1pm at St. Peter’s Church, every Monday and Wednesday, continuing until the end of the year.

The cost is $15 per person, and will be regarded as a donation to the church and you can register in advance on www.Ptix.bm or just show up the church. The tour requires a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 people to proceed.
