Much is being said about diversity sensitivity, cultural appropriation and race as pertains to yoga, but where does one start with this conversation and why is it necessary in the context of yoga? The Yoga Centre on Victoria Street invites you to join them as they explore these issues in an eight-week course on Yoga, Race and the Cultural Appropriation Diversion of True Essence starting on Friday, January 10th.
Beginning at 5:30pm on Fridays, this course is an expanded version of the popular course Intro to Yoga, Race and Meditation – which was held in August.
The course touches on history, tradition, the legacy of yoga and cultural appropriation and the concern of the watered-down focus of much Western yoga; and its impact on yoga teachings in our world today. It explores the teachings of mind in yoga, and the role of meditation, through Raja Yoga, Jnana Yoga and non-dualism akin with Jnana Yoga, Buddhism and Christian Contemplative practice. The object of the course is to discern through the white noise the essence of yogic teachings in particular in today’s post-modern Western Culture. Students also practice 20 minutes of meditation each week when taking this course.
This is a Yoga Alliance Community Education Provider (YACEP) course.
The cost is $180.
