January 8th, 2020 Bermuda Calendar Update

Happy New Year, Bermuda!

We hope that 2020 is off to a good start for you, and your resolutions are holding up so far 😉 Here’s your very first weekly update of the year, with all of the latest events that have been added to the calendar since December 18th. As always, make sure you scroll all the way down to the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post to see ALL upcoming events, including those that have been covered in previous posts.

Since it’s not practical to add them to the post each week, all of the Regular/ Weekly Events are listed on a separate page which you can access from the drop-down options under the Other Sections tab on the homepage.

If you are planning any upcoming events be sure to let us know by completing the online submission form here – a basic listing is free! Just be sure to include all of the relevant details in your description.

Visitors and locals alike are invited to Explore the Town of St. George with an 11th Generation Bermudian, to learn more about the UNESCO World Heritage Site, every Saturday until March 28th.

Starting at 2:15pm each week, Peter Frith will lead you on an exploration of the island’s storied UNESCO site, which dates back to the 17th Century. Learn about Bermuda’s distinct culture, including food, forts, roofs, religion and connections to Great Britain and The United States of America. The hour and a half tour consists of a gentle stroll through the town to see the most historic section, where the oldest stone building of British origin in the New World stands alongside four of the most prominent early 18th century homes on Bermuda. Other important sites you’ll visit include the St. George’s Historical Society Museum at Mitchell House, along with Stuart Hall, home of the Bermuda Perfumery, and the Globe where the Bermuda National Trust Museum is housed. St. Peter’s Church, Their Majesties Chappell, over 400 years old, now considered the oldest Anglican Episcopal church in continuous use in the New World, is also a highlight.

Few visitors get to explore St. George’s culture and properties in this way. Whether you’re an avid historian, a photographer looking for that perfect shot, or just looking to enrich the mind, this tour provides the perfect opportunity to discover Bermuda’s culture.

The cost is $25 per person with tickets available online at www.Ptix.bm

For more information, or to check availability, contact Peter Frith at pfrith@northrock.bm or +1441-536-1637.

BUEI Screens presents: Three Christs on Sunday, January 19th.

2020 / Drama / R / 117mins. In 1959, psychiatrist Dr. Alan Stone (Golden Globe Winner Richard Gere) arrives at a mental hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan armed with the radical belief that schizophrenic patients should be treated not with confinement and electroshock therapy but with empathy and understanding. As his first study, he takes on the particularly challenging case of three men — Joseph, Leon, and Clyde — each of whom believes they are Jesus Christ. Hoping that by getting them together in the same room to confront their delusions he can break through to them, Dr. Stone begins a risky, unprecedented experiment that will push the boundaries of psychiatric medicine and leave everyone involved — including Dr. Stone himself — profoundly changed. Based on a remarkable true story, Three Christs is a fascinating and moving look at one man’s journey into the deepest mysteries of the human mind.

The films starts at 5:15pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. Harbourfront opens for dinner at 6pm and ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner (food only) after the film. Reservations required.
