BIFFFlix presents Echo in the Canyon: an award-winning music documentary about the historic California music scene in LA’s Laurel Canyon, on Wednesday, January 22nd. 

The film starts at 6:30pm at Specialty Cinema, and is Rated PG-13.

Blow away the midweek blues with live jazz from the Toni Bari Trio, at Jazz Night at Crown & Anchor,  every Wednesday, starting on January 22nd. 

Weekly from 8pm until 11pm, you can enjoy live jazz music with your dinner. Singers and musicians are invited to get their jam on with the band!

There is no cover charge. Jazz Night will continue every Wednesday until further notice.

Taco & Tequila Thursdays is returning to Jasmine Cocktail Bar & Lounge, starting on January 23rd. 

Every Thursday from 5pm until 11pm, you are invited to join them for a Taco Fiesta, promising the best freshly made taco selections from Chef Gerardo Say Colmenares and your favourite Jasmine Lounge Patron Tequila cocktails. 

The cost is $28 for 4 tacos, or $36 for 6 tacos, plus %17 gratuities.

Keep your children active, having fun and jumping all over the place at the JUMP Rope Day Camp on Friday, January 24th, when Government schools are closed for the day. 

The one-day camp will run from 8:30am until 5:30pm at Victor Scott Primary School (early drop off at 8:15am). This camp is open to children aged 6 and up.

Sara Allen Women’s Missionary Society presents: Called to Make a Difference, a weekend of events celebrating Missionary Day, running from Friday, January 24th to Sunday, January 26th at Vernon Temple AME Church. 

The event starts at 7pm with a Free Movie Night screening: Cursed & Blessed on the Friday. The film tells the story of Deitrick Haddon who dreams of becoming a gospel singer, but family duties complicate his desire to do so. (Not Rated | 1h 45min | Drama.) Free tickets are available upon request. Refreshments for sale include a combo of hot dog, drink and popcorn for $6; popcorn for $3; drinks for $2. 

On Saturday at 8:30am they are hosting a Breakfast Seminar and Spa Exercise Experience facilitated by Licentiate Sis. Shanay Scott, followed by a workshop led by Evangelist Sis Joan Simmons. Tickets for the Breakfast are $15. 

On Sunday, the weekend will conclude with two services. The first starts at 7am, featuring speaker: Licentiate Sis. Zena Minors. The second service starts at 10am, featuring Speaker: Pastor Blanche E. Burchall.

The Bermuda College’s Counselling and Career Centre are excited to host an absorbing and timely event in the New Year, a good old fashioned Car Boot Sale on Saturday, January 25th. 

The event will take place from 8am until 2pm in Parking Lot F (near the Student Centre). Whether you are looking to completely de-clutter the house or pick up someone’s old treasures, they promise this is the place to do it. There will be snacks for sale, free entertainment for the kids, plus plenty of parking.

Calling all male and female singles, widows, widowers, divorcees, relationship coaches, singles ministry leaders, youthleaders: Saphire Faith International Ministries will host it’s first annual Singles Summit on Saturday, January 25th. 

The summit will take place at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort from 10am to 4pm. It is designed to bring singles of the Christian faith together for friendship, fellowship and empowerment. Anyone interested in pursuing a life changing encounter is welcome. If you worship on Saturdays they encourage you to come after your service.

The hope is that the summit will impact attendees and change the way they view themselves and their season of singleness, to encourage them to create intimacy with God while affording them the opportunity to become a part of a vibrant community with other singles. 

The summit is hosted by Marlene Flynn and Shaunte Simmons. There will be a panel discussion including speakers Bishop Lynn Landy, Dr. Blanche Burchall, Carla George, Langre Carrol, Dr. Philip Phin, and Dr. Danette Ming. A buffet lunch is included.

BUEI Screens & Warwick Academy Human Rights Project presents: Papicha on Saturday, January 25th. 

2019 / Drama / NR / 106mins.  Algiers, 1997. The country is in the hands of terrorist groups, seeking to establish an Islamic and archaic state. Women are particularly affected and oppressed by primitive diktas, who seek to take control of their bodies and control their passage through the public space. While a frenzied hunt for women unveiled is launched, Nedjma, a young student passionate about fashion, is determined to federate the girls of her campus to organize a fashion show braving all the forbidden.

The film begins at 5:15pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. At 6pm Harbourfront opens for dinner ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner (food only) after the film. Reservations required. Under the Distinguished Patronage of The Revd. Canon John Stow and Mrs. Stow, St. Mark’s Church Guild presents a Variety Concert on Saturday, January 25th. 
           
The concert starts at 6:30pm in the Church Hall.  

General Admission is $20 and free for children under 12. Tickets for Patrons are $40 for couples,  $25 for singles.

The Caledonian Society of Bermuda will be hosting the Annual Burns Supper at Rosewood Tuckers Point on Saturday, January 25th. 

A Burns Supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of Scotland’s national bard Robert Burns, author of many famous poems and songs. A few examples include Auld Lang Syne (yes, the one we all sing at New Year), To a Mouse (the phrase “the best laid schemes o’ mice and men gang aft agley” comes from this poem) and Tam O’ Shanter (considered by many to be one of the best examples of the narrative poem in European literature). NOTE: You do not have to be a literary buff to enjoy this, you just have to enjoy delicious food with entertaining toasts and speeches.

The event starts at 6:30pm. Come along to an enjoyable evening of Scottish fare, including a 5 course meal. There will also be a demonstration by the Bermuda Highland Dancers, and Ceilidh dancing. 

Ticket price is $100 (cash bar). Dress Code is formal.

Party Zone Bermuda is introducing a new monthly event: Ladies Night on Saturday, January 25th. 

Doors open at 10pm at their premises on Industrial Park Road, next to the driving range and mini golf, and ladies enter for free before 11pm. Fyah Redds of One Life Sound will be bringing the music to dance to all night long.

Admission is $15 for gents, and $10 for ladies after 11pm. Ladies Night will be held once a month until further notice.

Join them for an evening with Jeremy Madeiros, principle conservation officer for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Jeremy will share the latest on the Cahow Recovery Programme and some exciting new research developments.

Members of the MSA family are encouraged to get out their favourite running/walking gear in their house colour to join the school’s first ever 5K Walk/Run For Your House on Friday, January 31st.

The walk/run starts at 6pm at the school, and the route will be just under 3 miles, starting along Cedar Avenue and coming back on Dundonald Street.

The cost for registration is $25 per person and includes a glow stick and a slice of pizza. Registration can be paid at the school office between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

All funds raised will go toward providing shade for the school yard.

Titan Tours invites you to come, experience and discover the Island’s untold legacy on their African Bermuda Dispersion Cultural Bus Tour 2020, which will take you on a Sankofa Journey of the enslaved on Saturdays throughout February and March. 

Roughly 60 percent of Bermudians are of African Ancestry, many of whom are descendants of West African and West Indian slaves brought here during the 17th century.

The Titan Bus will be parked directly outside the Hamilton Visitor Service Centre on Front Street (next to the Ferry Terminal), departing at 10am to visit sites based on stories of enslaved people and learn of their struggles for religious freedom on the Island. The tour is 2 hours long, returning to the Hamilton VSC at noon. 

Tours will be held on Saturdays: February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, and March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th.

A City Celebrates shows artwork of various mediums, celebrating all things Hamilton, in recognition of the 225th Anniversary of the Corporation of Hamilton’s service to the community. All are invited to come and vote your Peoples Choice from the works of professional, amateur and student artists in this show. All artwork will be for sale unless otherwise stated by the artist.

The exhibition will run until February 4th.  Opening hours at BSoA are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.

The 2020 Church Girls’ & Boys’ Brigades Valentines Fair & Car Wash will be held on Saturday, February 8th.

From 10am to 4pm at St. Paul’s Church Hall & Car Park, lunch will be offered with the usual delicious homemade soups, chili, hotdogs, codfish balls and chicken wingettes.

The Car Wash is $20 for small and regular sized cars and $25 for large cars and vans.

They ask you to please consider donating items to the stalls, such as Baked Goods, Books, DVDs, “Nearly New” Goods, Plants, Toys and White Elephant (no clothes or shoes). Donations can be delivered to the St Paul’s Church hall in Paget any Friday evening between 6pm and 10pm, or on Sunday mornings between 10am and 12:30pm, and placed on the stage in the hall. On Friday, February 7th they will be there all day and evening setting up the various stalls.

The Bermuda Heart Foundation & Jump Rope Federation presents a Fundraising Quiz Night at Docksider Pub & Restaurant on Wednesday, February 12th.

The quiz starts at 7pm in the Back Room, but as food and bar service is available, they encourage you to come early to prepare yourself for the fierce competition.

The cost is $20 per person, with teams allowed of up to 5 people. All proceeds will go to Bermuda Heart Foundation’s Jump 2B Fit Program.

The February Mid-Term JUMP Camp will be held at Victor Scott Primary School from Monday, February 10th until Friday, February 14th.

JUMP CAMP is considered to be one of the most fun camps on island and this break, kids (between the ages of 6 and 17) can join their world champion international JUMP staff for an all out blast!

The camp runs daily from 8:30am until 3pm, with After Camp available from 3pm until 5:30pm.

The cost is $150 for the week, plus $100 for After Camp. The daily rate is $30 per day, or $50 with After Camp.

In the Stars – a unique dining series inspired by the Zodiac calendar, with special entertainment at each event – continues with a family-style brunch and day party for the Aquarius Edition on Sunday, February 16th.

The nights starts with a bubbly reception at 6:30pm at the Hamilton Princess, followed by a 4-course dinner at 7:30pm. Entertainment will be provided by DJ and alumni Brian Purvey. There will also be a a Raffle Draw and Silent Auction. Dress Code is smart denim.

Open Your Heart Foundation presents Good Friday, a celebration day with FREE goodies and activities for the whole community, on Friday, April 10th. 

The event starts at 11am at Warren Simmons Field (aka “Naval Field”) in Sandys and all are invited.

You can expect lots of entertainment and activities for the whole family including a Kids Corner, fun castles and slides, Easter egg hunt, face painting, Tug of War, electric slide, Gombeys, live performances, a Seniors Corner, and more! There will also be tons of giveaways, including free kites, Easter baskets, snowballs, cotton candy, free haircuts and braiding.
