Happy Hump Day, Ladies and Gents

Sad that the weekend is so far away?  Here’s a little something to cheer you up: Winter is officially over as today marks the first day of Spring!  Feel better now?  I thought you might..  Here is the latest round-up of Bermuda events:

 

BEPRO Quiz

Feel like not enough people know how much of a genius you are? BEPRO (Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals) are hosting their Quiz Night, Let’s Get Quizzical tomorrow, Thursday, March 21st at the Robin Hood Pub & Restaurant.   Hosted by Nadanja Bailey, this quiz will start at 7.45pm, featuring prizes and drinks specials.  The cost is $10 per person for teams of four, although individuals are welcome as they can be grouped at the event. To RSVP, contact  vwheatley@bcc.com.  You can also turn up on the night but they ask that you sign up before 7.30pm if you haven’t pre-registered.

 

 

My Sister and Me Tea

CV Cafe are hosting their first My Sister and Me Tea on Saturday, March 23rd from 11am until 3pm.  The event is inspired by two sisters who come to the cafe each Saturday to share a meal, a natter and a cuppa and then go on to enjoy the rest of their afternoon.  CV Cafe would like to offer more women the opportunity to spend quality time with a sister or a friend who is as loved as a sister.  Special mini manicures and pedicures will be on offer (charges apply) and various treats and special discount vouchers for selected St. George’s stores will be included.

 

 

Fairmont Earth Hour

To support Earth Hour on Saturday, March 23rd, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess will be marking the occasion in Heritage Court from 8.30pm until 9.30pm. BNT Palm Sunday Walk

The Bermuda National Trust and the Argus Group’s legendary Annual Palm Sunday Walk will be on Sunday, March 24th. This is a walking tour through Devonshire, seeing parts of the island you normally don’t get to visit and taking in places of cultural interest and beauty. The distance is around 5 miles (2.5 hours) and so is not suitable for strollers. Cold refreshments, donated by John Barritt & Son Ltd. will be served at a rest area and at the finish – you just have to bring your own drink container. The walk starts at Elliot Primary School on Hermitage Road at 2pm and ends at the same place. Participation is free, although donations are appreciated. For more information, see www.bnt.bm.

 

 

Sousas Seminar at Age Concern

Good news for over-50s.  Age Concern Bermuda and Sousa’s Gardens are coming together on Sunday, March 24th to offer a seminar entitled How Does Your Garden Grow? or Does It? from noon until 1pm.  As well as gardening tips at the  seminar, experts will also be on hand to give advice and members of Age Concern will receive a 10% discount on purchases.  If you are not a current member, you will have the opportunity to join at Sousa’s that day.

 

 

 

Good Friday Family Fun Day

Wondering how best to show off that new kite? You can’t go far wrong at Devil’s Hole Field (Warrior’s Field) on Friday, March 29th as CCCC and Harrington Workmans Club present Good Friday Family Fun Day.  From 11am, you can enjoy a kite competition, running races, tug-of-war, Easter egg hunt, hot dog competition, fish cake competition, fun castle, big slide, face painting, mini donuts, snack vendors and more.  Music is courtesy of Soul Jah 1 & Lenky Bwoy and Global Movements, and there will also be a 20 Over Cricket Match between South Shore and D Alley. Admission is free.

 

 

 

Bubbles and Bunnies

Discovery Wines are adding a little twist to one of the usual traditional family Easter activities at their annual Bubbles and Bunnies event on Saturday, March 30th.  From 10am until noon, there will be a children’s Easter Egg hunt at Spanish Point Boat Club, featuring a special appearance by the Easter Bunny himself!  While the kids are having good time, you can enjoy some adult fun by relaxing with a few glasses of bubbly.  The cost is $25 per adult and $5 per child.  This event sold out last year but you can secure your spot by calling 296-9463.

 

 

Beau Rivage Birthday

RHADC Junior Sailing Clinic

Are you, or do you know, a junior sailor aged between 5 and 15 who would love to improve their skills while having fun? The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club are hosting a Junior Sailing Easter Break Clinic from Monday, April 1st until Friday, April 5th and then from Monday, April 8th until Friday, April 12th. Lessons will run from 9am until 4pm with a one hour break for lunch. This clinic is targeted to young sailors who want to improve their sailing technique in Open Bics and Optis. The cost is $350 for a 5 day clinic, $600 for a 10 day clinic, or $75 per day, with members eligible for a 20% discount. Fiesta Latinoamericana

Hola Latin Americans, you are invited to come and represent your country at Fiesta Latinoamericana on Saturday, April 6th.  Of course, you don’t have to be Latin American to attend.  From 9pm until 1am at Margarita’s Grill , Bermuda Latin Vibes will be hosting their first Latin Party of 2013 and promise the best of Reggaeton, Merengue, Bachata, Denbow and Salsa by DJ Carlos and DJ Mezcla.

 

 

 

 

Bermuda Open Karate

Fans of fitness and/or martial arts are invited to the Bermuda Karate Institute’s 31st Bermuda Open Karate Championships & Wellness Show at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Sunday, April 7th from 10am until 3pm. Presented by Bermuda’s original karate dojo, BKI, and Bermuda’s only martial arts Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Skipper Ingham, this event promises a mix of competitions at all levels and age groups, including traditional forms and all levels of K-1 kickboxing. Bermuda’s health and wellness providers will also be showcasing their wares and providing samples. Admission is $10 or $5 for children under 12 and are available on the day or in advance at Bermuda Karate Institute on King Street. Now in its 16th year, the Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF), for 2013 will be running from Friday, April 12th until Thursday, April 18th, so mark your diaries, fans of independent cinema! This year, over 50 feature-length and short narratives and documentaries will be screened at Liberty Theatre and Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Most films have won top awards at other film festivals and BIFF is one of only a small number worldwide of Academy Award Qualifying festivals for the Short Film – Live Action Oscar. As well as the best in world cinema, local film-makers, including Lucinda Spurling, Andrew Kirkpatrick, Robert Zuill, Kara Smith, Karli Powell, Kev Lombard, Milton Raposo and Bayard Outerbridge, will also be highlighted. Big Chill

An Ibiza-style chillout vibe is coming to Bermuda this summer, thanks to The Big Chill.  This will happen twice a week, every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, in two different locations, with both offering great DJs and musicians playing chilled out music. On Friday nights from May 17th, you can enjoy the ocean sunset view with special cocktails at the Seabreeze Lounge at Elbow Beach from 6pm onwards.
