Happy Friday Troops!
Another working week is coming to a close! Let’s hope we have great weather for the first official weekend of Spring. Looking for some things to do in Bermuda this weekend? Here are a few options:
At a loose end tonight? Daisy’s on Front Street are hosting a special Fashion Friday Happy Hour tonight. From 5pm until 8pm, you can expect deals throughout the store, including up to 75% off select items, complimentary wine and snacks, gift giveaways and the chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree. For more details, visit www.mydaisys.com.
As a fundraiser for the Elliot Auditorium upgrade, Elliot PTA presents Get Fit Night tonight at Elliot School Gymnasium from 6.30pm until midnight. This event will feature zumba, football, Insanity, yoga, jazzercise, African dance and more, with water fruit and snack bars available for purchase. The cost is $5 per adult or $10 per family of 3 or more.
Still need to work on your Good Friday kite? The Chewstick Foundation are hosting a KiteFest Kick-Off on Saturday, March 23rd in the new section of the Washington Mall on the Church Street Level. From 10am until 4pm, there will be Bermuda kite-making demonstrations (as well as the opportunity for children to have help in making their own Bermuda kite), face-painting, egg decorating and games of marbles.
The Spa at Elbow Beach will be reopening on Saturday, March 23rd. To celebrate and welcome back their loyal clientele, they are offering three special promotions until March 31st. For more information, or to make an appointment, contact 239-8900 or ebbda-spa@mohg.com.
Gay rights activist Valentino Tear, also known as DJ. V.I.P., is hosting an after-party for the cast of Hasty Pudding Theatricals from Harvard tomorrow night, Saturday, March 23rd. This will be at Muse Bistro on Front Street from 10pm until 3am and you are invited to wear something pink for the theme of Pink Disco. The event is LGBTQ friendly and promoted by the Rainbow Alliance of Bermuda. Admission is $15 and will be reduced for anyone with a Hasty Pudding ticket stub. Here’s the link to the event on Facebook.
Promising the most exciting old school bash ever, the Cambridge Beaches Hotel Old School Explosion will be on Saturday, March 23rd from 8pm. This will be hosted by DJ Younguls and The Animal, featuring old school DJs Malcom “Lethal Weapon” Smith, Ice Man and DJ Cavon. Tickets are $25 in advance from www.pTix.bm and more at the gate.
Also tomorrow night, Saturday, March 23rd, March Madness will be celebrated with the latest soca and reggae tunes. This will be at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect from 10.30pm, with music courtesy of DJ Rusty G. Tickets are $15 on the door.
It came dangerously close to not happening this year but the Chewstick Foundation’s Bermuda Good Friday KiteFest will be going ahead on Friday, May 29th at Horseshoe Bay. From 10am until 6pm, this event will feature Bermuda’s biggest kite competition, family activities, such as an Easter egg hunt, wacky races and more, as well as live entertainment, featuring a diverse cross-section of Bermuda talent including traditional folk music, acoustic reggae, contemporary gospel and Bermuda Gombeys. Best of all, this event is free. For more information, contact 292-2439 or info@chewstick.org or visit www.chewstick.org.
The Olde Towne Market in St. George’s will return next month and will back in its old timeslot! The Market is being moved back to Sundays instead of Saturdays and will run every week from April 7th to July 28th, from 2pm until 6pm in the usual location of Water Street. The Olde Towne Market aim to be the biggest and best street market in Bermuda and hope to have a variety of vendors, including farmers, fishermen, vendors with pedlars’ licenses selling household items and clothing, as well as food vendors, artists, buskers and crafts people. If you are interested in being a vendor, you can sign up online at www.oldetownemarket.com.
Bermuda will be the proud host of the NatWest Island Games XV from Saturday, July 13th to Friday, July 19th. Not only will this be the first time that the Games will be held outside of Europe but it will be the largest international sporting event ever to be held in Bermuda. This multi-sports event will include athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling (mountain biking and road), football, golf, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming, tennis, triathlon, volleyball and windsurfing. The opening ceremony will be on July 13th and the full calendar of events will be published on www.natwestislandgames2013.com when available.
