I can’t believe that we’re over halfway through September and I have only just found out that it is Save The Koala Month!  I haven’t saved a single koala yet so I guess I had better get cracking.  There are bound to be loads hanging around the Railway Trail or somewhere.  Here are some other things to do in Bermuda during September:

The Botanical Society and the Bermuda Zoological Society are pleased to present a lecture entitled Conservation & Recovery of Endangered Plants, Including Bermuda’s Governor Laffan’s Fern by Marge From at 6pm on Thursday, September 20th in the Education Auditorium at BAMZ. Marge From is the Director of Plant Conservation at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and the presentation will cover her organization’s role in the effort to conserve this endemic fern and other plant conservation projects. Hi Kids!

I can’t believe how quickly it changed from summer to full-on hurricane season!  Thankfully, Leslie turned out to be a bit of a damp squib after all – here’s hoping we continue to be lucky and get through the rest of the season with no injuries or major damage (and wouldn’t it be nice for the bad weather to hit mid-week instead of at the weekend for once?).  Anyway, lots of Bermuda events coming up – here are the latest:

The Bermuda National Rugby Team have made it through to the next round of the Rugby World Cup Qualifier 2015 and, to raise funds to be able to go and represent Bermuda in the next round, the boys are inviting you to their Bermuda Rugby Pub Quiz tonight in Outback Sports Bar. Registration is from 7.30pm and the quiz starts at 8pm. There will be a variety of prizes and one cash raffle prize and the cost of entry is $15 per head with a maximum of 5 per team.  For more details, contact tonyisward@gmail.com.

Happy September Kids!

Well, that was another fun holiday weekend but, sadly, summer is almost over. The leaves will soon start to turn shades of autumn red and gold before floating and falling from the trees. The lush greenery will soon be replaced by soft snowfall on the bare branches.  Wait a minute, we live in Bermuda, so this won’t happen! It might get colder and rainier but at least it’s still green and pretty! Anyway, don’t get the winter blues, there are lots of things coming up:

Of particular interest to parents, educators, allied health professionals, and those who work directly with children with special needs, the first event in Tomorrow’s Voices’ Yearly 2012/13 Training Institute Series is an evening with Sean Barron and Barbara Protopapa, a couple who consider themselves recovered from Autism. Their seminar, Anything is Possible, will be on Saturday, September 8th **UPDATE: this has been cancelled due to stupid Hurricane Leslie – rescheduled date to follow** at the Cathedral Hall, Church Street from 6pm until 8.30pm and you are invited to come and hear them share their compelling and inspiring stories of navigating through childhood, adolescence, and teenage years with Autism
to become adults “healed” from autism because it no longer adversely affects their day to day lives. Pre-registration is available online at www.tomorrowsvoices.bm and Professional Development Hours can be earned for those that Pre-Register. Happy Friday Troops!

Don’t forget to watch out for the Blue Moon tonight – it’s not actually blue in colour, so don’t be too disappointed, but at least you can sing the song at it.  The holiday weekend is almost upon us – here are the latest Bermuda events to keep you out of trouble:

Cosmopolitan Nightclub (the venue most recently known as Moon) is hosting IParty, a pre-Labour Day party on Saturday, September 1st.  Doors open at 10pm, ladies are free before 11pm and music will be courtesy of YGS Ent, New Era and Supatone.  Tickets are $20 on the door and $15 in advance from Kit ‘n’ Caboodle.
