Lots going on in Bermuda so let’s just get right down to it:
Bringing a double-meaning to downward dogs, Karmic Pretzel Yoga are doing a special Fundraising Event with the Bermuda SPCA at My Sereni-Tea. The first class is today from 12.15pm until 1pm and the second class is on Thursday from 5.30pm until 6.30pm. Both classes are Vinyasa flow yoga but, while both are good workouts that are ideal for balancing and de-stressing, the Wednesday class will be a more gentle flow than the Thursday evening class. Feng Shui Master Tracey Mackenzie is in Bermuda and will be showing you How to Improve your Love Life using Feng Shui, just in time for Valentine’s Day! This seminar is tonight from 7pm until 9pm at My Sereni-Tea and each participant will also receive a bottle of Love Oil to open up your heart chakra and promote harmony in your life. The cost is $80 and participants who purchase a spot in both this seminar and the Wealth seminar on February 2nd will be entered into a draw for a free 2 hour Feng Shui consultation valued at $150. WuzUp? are calling on men of all ages to come and show off their sporting and gaming prowess at the very first Lil Manz Event on Friday, February 1st at the First Church of God on North Shore. From 6pm until midnight, there will be a 3-a-side football match, a foosball knockout tournament and a FIFA Soccer 13 gaming contest. The cost of $15 per participant includes entry to one of the competitions, a hot dog and a drink. Feng Shui Master Tracey Mackenzie will be showing you how to Welcome Wealth into your Life using Feng Shui on Saturday, February 2nd. This is an interactive wealth-building seminar from 7pm until 9pm at My Sereni-Tea. The Fairmont Hamilton Princess are hosting a Superbowl Bash on Sunday, February 3rd. The festivities begin at 3pm and the pre-game and game will be shown on their 7.5 x 10 ft screen. Admission is free and you can expect happy hour prices, deals on beer and Breezer buckets, free hors d’oeuvres from 6pm to 7pm and every time a touchdown is scored, drinks prices will be dropped. If you’re more of a film buff than a sports fan, BIFF are hosting a screening of Silver Linings Playbook on Sunday, February 3rd. Showing for one night only at Liberty Theatre, this film stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro and has been nominated for 8 Oscars. Tickets are $25 and available from www.pTix.bm. Proceeds will benefit the Bermuda International Film festival’s programming initiatives.

Yes, January is almost over but you can still give your New Year’s Resolution to live a healthier life a little boost! Café Ten will be hosting a Lite Night on Tuesday, February 5th, featuring a presentation on Nutrition and Exercise from Dr. Don Pedan, Performance Coach at The Olympic Club. The cost is $35 per person, which includes “lite” tapas prepared by Chef Mike (recipes available), a welcome low fat cocktail, a glass of low calorie wine and door prizes, compliments of the Olympic Club. The Frog and Onion Pub would like you to hop on over to Dockyard for their 3rd Annual Frog Race on Saturday, February 9th from 7pm. Six frogs will be created by local artists and these will be auctioned off at the beginning of the night. The new ‘owners’ of the frogs (usually a group goes together to bid on the frogs) then organise their ‘jockeys’ for each race. (there are 6 races). The Frogs are laid at the starting line and then they are moved along the race track by the jockey at the other end. The frogs can only be moved by rolling string over a bamboo stick and One Eyed Bob in his Mega Truck will be adding an extra obstacle by driving back and forth across the track, driving over the frogs . There are six races and the crowd can bet on a frog with two-to-one betting. The winners collect vouchers for the amount that they win and can choose between vouchers for Frog and Onion or for the Arts Centre. All proceeds go to the Arts Centre at Dockyard. The Members of the Broad Arrow Lodge are hosting a Charity Quiz Night at the Docksider Pub on Saturday 9th February 2013 with prizes, raffles and an auction included. This event is a fundraiser to establish an education trust for the benefit of Katherine Wheddon, in memory of her father, Major Christian Wheddon. Dinner and drinks will be from 7pm with a three course meal offered for $25, with $5 from every meal and $1 from every drink purchased to be donated to the trust fund, courtesy of Dockies. The Quiz, hosted by Quiz Master Mike Bishop will start at 8pm and costs $50 for a team of 5. If you’ve ever been interested in growing your own veggies then you’ll want to get in touch with Frances Eddy. Her Grow Your Own Food Biointensive Gardening Course starts on Sunday, February 10th and runs for 4 consecutive Sundays from 9am until 11.30am. Frances has been teaching this course for over ten years and the cost is $100, which includes a $25 book. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and The Reefs is giving you another option to celebrate with their special Couples Menu. Their 4 course dinner will be served at Ocean Echo between 6pm and 9.30pm and costs $49 per person. For reservations, call 238-0222.
The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society (BMDS) presents their latest production, Bouncers by John Godber, running from Thursday, February 14th until Saturday, February 16th, and then from Thursday, February 21st until Saturday, February 23rd. This show is billed as an outrageous and hilarious parody of the disco scene and will feature four actors portraying over 20 different characters. On Valentine’s Day, you are invited to come in 80s disco attire and enjoy free cocktails and nibbles from 7pm. The Rotary Club of Sandys Bermuda is celebrating their 40th Anniversary and are marking the occasion with a Black Tie Gala event at the Fairmont Southampton Princess on Saturday, February 16th **UPDATE: new date of Saturday, March 16th**. The guest speaker for the evening will be Keith Fitz-Gerald, Chief Investment Strategist of Money Map Press, Chairman of the Fitz-Gerald Group and New York Times Best-Selling Business Author. Raffle tickets on the night cost $100 and prizes include a Tanzanian Safari, a weekend at The Reefs, $2000 Gold Certificate and a 46” LED TV. Funds raised will support various charities, including PALS, The Bermuda Sloop Foundation and The Salvation Army. Registration is now open for Argus Walks the Walk. This Charity 5K Walk, organised by the Centre on Philanthropy and sponsored by the Argus Group, will be on Sunday, February 24th from 8.15am and will start and finish in front of the Argus Building on Wesley Street. The registration fee is $25 and $20 goes to the charity of your choice with the other $5 going to support www.volunteer.bm, Bermuda’s only volunteer recruitment website. The Eliza Dolittle Society’s 7th Annual Soup-A-Bowl, will be held in the Harbourview Ballroom at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Ballroom on Monday, February 25th. Cocktails start at 6pm until 9pm and the ticket price of $80 ($1000 for Patron tables of 8) includes local entertainment and tasting of soups prepared by Bermuda’s top chefs, as well as amateur entrants, all competing to be judged Bermuda’s Best Soup. Proceeds support Daily Bread, an island-wide feeding program. The Family Centre invite you to Celebrate the Night at their annual fundraising event on Saturday, March 9th. From 7pm until 11pm at Fourways Inn, you can enjoy a variety of entertainment, including live music, DJ and dancing on the patio, a piano bar, a performance by the St. George’s Prep girls’ choir and dance group doing Broadway tunes, a buffet dinner, cash bar, raffles, salsa dancing demo and lessons, and stand-up comedians. Tickets are $55 and are available from Cafe 4, Fourways Inn and the Family Centre from February 5th.
If you have a child aged between 10 and 14 who loves animals, you may be interested in signing them up for the Bermuda SPCA Camp Ruffin’ It. This camp gives kids the opportunity to discover interesting facts about animal lifecycles, the ecosystem, and cuddle with animals in the shelter as they learn how to solve pet overpopulation. Kids will enjoy a full tour, animal presentations, special guests, interactive games and nature crafts and the camp runs from Monday, April 1st until the Friday, April 8th from 9am until 3pm on weekdays.
