At a loose end tonight?  Celebrate the season by dressing in your best brights and pastels at Spring Salsa Fling tonight, Wednesday, April 24th, at Shine’s House of Music.  The evening will begin with a free dance class at 8.30pm and then there will be social dancing, including salsa, bachata and hustle until 1am.  There is no cover charge. Good morning Kids!

Another week closer to summer and, based on how busy the calendar is looking already, I have a feeling that it’s going to be a particularly good one this year.  Here are the latest  upcoming events in Bermuda to add to the list:

Island Beach Party

Snorkel Park Beach are celebrating the summer with an Island Beach Party on Mondays and Thursdays every week (weather permitting). This high energy, high participation tropical fun beach party is suitable for the whole family  and they suggest that everyone gets there 5 minutes in advance of the start time of 8pm. Guests can enjoy complimentary rum swizzles while enjoying live local entertainment, such as Gombey dancers and a sizzling hot fire limbo show, as well as a limbo contest, games and more. Featured performers will include Rock Fire Bermuda, Island Teasr (fire limbo), DJ Neiko, Snorkel Park Dancers and MC Nadanja Bailey.

Not that I’m excited or anything (okay, maybe a little bit)!  Here is a quick round-up of the latest Bermuda happenings before the weekend:

XXX_X BIFF 2013 Festvial Poster_PR_F with logos

As mentioned previously, the Bermuda International Film Festival will kick off tonight with over 50 films screening over the next week. I now have details of some of the related events. The BIFF 2013 Launch Party tonight, Friday, April 12th, and the Wrap Party on Thursday, April 18th, will both take place at Margarita’s Grill on Bermudiana Road from 9pm till late. This is a great opportunity to rub shoulders with visiting film directors and actors, the jury, the overseas film media and other movie industry movers and shakers, with no cover charge for either evening. Margarita’s Grill will also perform the role of official Festival Lounge for BIFF 2013 as well as the venue for four free lunchtime panel discussions next week. From 5pm until late on weekdays and 10pm until late on Saturday, cinema-goers will be able to mingle, unwind and talk films while enjoying a full bar with drink specials, bites served until 10pm on weekdays, and a nightly raffle, with a grand draw at the Wrap Party with prizes including champagne, rum and an evening at Fourways Inn. The lunchtime panel discussions will be from 12.30pm until 2pm and are open to the public. On Monday, April 15th, you can get the inside scoop on impressing and capitalising on the international film media at Start Spreading the News and the experts at Doctor Doc, will show you how to make and market a documentary film on Tuesday, April 16th. Explore the importance of selecting a good location for a film and its implications for making and marketing the film at On Location on Wednesday, April 17th and, finally, visiting short filmmakers will share the tricks of their trade at Short But Sweet on Thursday, April 18th. Since MEF Group is a sponsor of BIFF 2013, you can receive a 10% discount on food and drink at La Trattoria, L’Oriental and Little Venice during festival week upon production of a BIFF ticket. Tickets are available from www.pTix.bm.
