Morning all!

Hope you all had as many delicious pancakes as I did yesterday (although that is very unlikely as I was a bit of a glutton).  Now, for those of you who observe it, we’re onto Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.  I can’t believe that Valentine’s Day, the festival of love and chocolate, is during Lent this year!  🙁 I think chocolate-lovers who usually give it up should get a special exception just for this one day.  Anyway, what is there to do in Bermuda in Winter?  The answer is LOTS:

Pigs and Pinot

Ten Cafe & Bar invite you to a special evening celebrating a rarely available kind of pork at their Pigs & Pinot event tonight from 7pm. Pure-bred Berkshire Pigs are fed on acorns only for the last 100 days to impart them with a unique flavour, are only available for 21 days and the farmer only feeds 100 animals in such a way per year. Chef Mike will create 5 courses to be paired with 5 pinot noirs from Burrows Lightbourn.  The cost is $75.   Spaces are limited but you can book your spot by contacting 295-0857 or ten@yellowfin.bm.

Hi Kids!

Lots of love-themed events coming up in Bermuda – here are the latest:

Tree of Love

If you have been on the second floor of the new Washington Mall the past few days, you have probably noticed the outdoor garden which has suddenly appeared opposite Bermuda Gold Standard.  The Garden of Love, sponsored by the Washington Mall and Sousa’s Landscaping, is a Valentine’s promotion aiming to literally grow love in the Heart of Hamilton, with all proceeds going to the Bermuda Heart Foundation.  The garden will include a plethora of plants, benches for people to enjoy their lunch, water features, and a Love Tree where, by donating to charity, you can leave a message to a loved one. The message will be written on heart shaped biodegradable paper that has flower seeds pressed into it. At the end of February, the tree will be planted in a public park and the seeds from the paper will sprout flowers in the spring, creating a carpet of flowers around the Love Tree.  If you submit your love message or song of choice by February 7th, you will be entered into a  singing love-a-gram competition. On Valentines Day, several winners will have their love message sung to their sweetheart by a singing tell-a-gram.

Lots going on in Bermuda so let’s just get right down to it:

Bermuda SPCA

Bringing a double-meaning to downward dogs, Karmic Pretzel Yoga are doing a special Fundraising Event with the Bermuda SPCA at My Sereni-Tea.  The first class is today from 12.15pm until 1pm and the second class is on Thursday from 5.30pm until 6.30pm.  Both classes are Vinyasa flow yoga but, while both are good workouts that are ideal for balancing and de-stressing, the Wednesday class will be a more gentle flow than the Thursday evening class.  Space is limited and a $20 minimum donation is required for each class.  For more information, see their Facebook page here and, to book your spot, contact kpyoga@hotmail.com.
